Trouble in Chrome

1Password keeps crashing Chrome. I tested all of my Chrome extensions, and 1Password is the culprit. Tried uninstalling, reinstalling, etc..., but it keep crashing.

I finally gave up and switched to Firefox. That worked ok until I got a security update notification from Firefox today that specifically said 1Password plugin won't work anymore with the new update???

How many different browswers do I have to try until I get 1Password to work? So frustrating...

Not sure what info you need to help troubleshoot, but I would love some assistance in getting this to work in either Chrome or Firefox!

  • The release of Firefox 10 required us to publish an update to 1Password. If you have the "check for updates" option enabled and a fairly short frequency selected, you'll have been offered a chance to install the latest version, which includes support for Firefox 10.

1Password works beautifully with Chrome 16. If you're having problems, please send us a diagnostics report, in case we can figure out what's going wrong. The next time Chrome crashes, immediately launch 1Password, choose File > Diagnostics Report > E-mail to AgileBits, and add a description of what you were doing when Chrome crashed. It'd be great if you could also include a link to this forum thread, so we can tie them together.

    Thanks!

Sounds like you're running an old version of 1Password, not compatible with Chrome 16 and Firefox 10. Please download and install our latest version here: https://agilebits.com/onepassword/win/release_notes

If that is the problem, dagwood777, note that running the installer downloaded from that "release notes" page will require you to restart Windows to complete the installation.

If you simply check for new versions from with 1Password, you should be able to avoid that inconvenience:

Quit all web browsers.

Launch 1Password for Windows.

Choose Help > Check for New Version.

Follow the instructions to download and install the current version.
For your convenience, please consider enabling the option to check for new versions automatically, which you can do on the Updates tab of 1Password preferences.
  • I updated everything (Firefox, Chrome, 1Password, etc...), and the 1Password extension still crashes chrome every time I try to login to my bank web site. Perhaps it is something specific to that site? I even tried the latest beta extension for chrome, and it still crashed. I emailed both diagnostic reports for regular extension and beta extension to you for review. Please let me know if you find anything. Thanks.
  • BTW, the Firefox add-on worked just fine with the same bank site. For some reason it just won't work in chrome.

Thanks for that additional information, dagwood. Is that the only trouble you have in Chrome? Just on one specific site? Could you please tell us what the URL is, so that we aren't "shooting in the dark" so to speak? <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Can you confirm for me the specific versions of 1Password, Chrome, and the extension that you are using? I just want to make sure that we are on the same page.

I was not able to find anything in our inbox from you. Did you use a different email address to sign up for the forums? That is the only one I have access to. If you emailed us from a different address, could you let me know what it is in a PM so that I can find your email in our inbox?

    Thanks in advance!
  • I sent you a PM with the URL and my email address. Hopefully that helps you track it down. I got an email reply from Mike T. saying that it was probably a firewall or antivirus issue. I use Norton Internet Security. I don't understand why Norton would only interfere with the Chrome plugin and not Firefox though. Things work just fine in Firefox. Thanks.
  • The extensions for Chrome and Safari work very differently than the extensions for Internet Explorer and Firefox. They're based on an entirely different architecture and technology.

Please add a note to this thread if the issue gets resolved through e-mail.

    Thanks!
  • Still working on this via email with support. So far no luck. The good news is that it only seems to happen on one site. The bad news is that it is my bank site that I use all the time. Thanks for the help.

Could you try completely removing the Chrome extension and then reinstall it, only this time, before you click the "Download" button on the Browser Extensions page, check the box to "Allow beta extensions" and see if that helps.

I've been unable to reproduce the problem (in either the stable or beta extension on Windows or Mac), but I'm wondering if some of the improvements we have made in the beta version of the Chrome extension will help you as well.

If you're still having trouble, could you try saving a new Login and see if the issue persists with a new Login in the beta extension?

Please let me know how it goes. Thanks!
