Memory consumption

Hi,

I'm using Knox 2.1.13 and have noticed that it's memory usage creeps up during the course of the day and doesn't drop down again after usage.

My Mac hasn't been rebooted for a few days, and I noticed it was using 120mb, then 145mb yesterday, and today 175mb.

I've been checking memory consumption on my system as I've run out of available ram in the last couple of weeks and I'm trying to identify the offending app. Sadly I think it might be Knox.

Is there anything that can be done to reduce my memory usage footprint?

Thanks,

Darren

Welcome to the forums, Darren. Thanks for contacting us with your concern. I'm not able to reproduce the issue in my own limited testing, but I will pass this along to the rest of the team here.

Could you tell me a bit about your vaults? (Why does that sound so weird to me?) <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

    How many? Approximate sizes? Etc.?

    Some more follow up questions:

Is it only Knox app itself that is opened and nothing else?

Does it happen more often when you mount a vault? Or does it happen even without any opened vaults?

It could be a number of things such as Spotlight, backups, and so on. We have Knox running all the time with no memory leaks, so we would need to narrow it down to something specific that is happening on your machine.

    Thanks for you help!
  • Hi Khad,

I have one vault open. It' capacity is 826Gb and about 525Gb is used.

I have several apps open all the time. For most of the time, these are iTunes and EyeTV. I also conduct regular Time Machine backups to a Time Capsule.

Unmounting the vault doesn't release the memory in use by Knox, but closing down Knox does.

When I re-open Knox and re-mount the vault, the memory usage starts off low again, but gradually creeps up over time.

Let me know if you require any more info.

    Thanks,

    Darren

    Thanks for the followup, Darren!

Side note: be sure to exclude your "active" Knox vaults from Time Machine backups. You can "backup the backups" that Knox creates because they won't be in use, but please be sure to exclude the active vault(s) since the backups could become corrupt if you are trying to read/write while Time Machine is attempting to back up the vault.

Does it happen even without any opened vaults?

Could you test with another (perhaps smaller) vault?

Does usage climb higher that 175 MB? If so, how long does it take?
