Iphone wifi sync problem

Hi,



New iphone 4s, don't want to use dropbox, and can't sync over wifi from my Mac on OSX Lion. Both mac and iphone are on my wifi net, re started both, read the troubleshooting etc, resorting to a begging bowl plea for help.



On teh iphone I turn on Wi-Fi sync/new connections and get the screen with 2 secret passwords etc. On my mac 1password sees the iphone device (which I have deleted several times), but the wi-fi status says not authorized. I don't get or can find the screen that allows mt input the 2 passwords generated by my iphone 1 password. Re attached PDF with 1password mac screen shot.

Hey Jamie,





I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble syncing. Before I go too far, I just want to mention that Dropbox syncing is fully automatic, does not require you to even be near your computer, and is our recommended method of securely syncing.



With Dropbox syncing, you can keep 1Password up to date from across town or across the country — anywhere you have an Internet connection. You Mac doesn't even have to be turned on!

I would strongly advise going with Dropbox syncing. It is more robust and just as secure as Wi-Fi syncing. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />



If you would prefer to stick with manually syncing via Wi-Fi, please read on.



On your Mac, if your iOS device is already listed in the sidebar under the SYNC section, please remove it by right-clicking on it and selecting "Delete…"



IMPORTANT: Because of the Bonjour networking service that Apple provides for Wi-Fi syncing, please restart your Mac and iOS device before proceeding further. You can restart your iOS device by holding down both the Sleep and Home buttons simultaneously for at least ten seconds until the Apple logo appears.



After restarting, please open Terminal (found in your /Applications/Utilities folder). Copy and paste this line into Terminal and press Return:

defaults write ws.agile.1Password ShowWiFiSyncAuthAutomatically -bool YES

Now, please open 1Password on your Mac and iOS device.



On your iOS device, go to Settings > Sync and turn WiFi Sync ON, then follow these steps:



1. Tap "Allow New Connections"

2. 1Password on your iOS device will display two secret sync codes. You’ll need these in a minute.

3. On your Mac you should be prompted to enter the codes automatically

4. Click "OK" and begin configuring your sync options.

5. Click "Sync" to perform a sync operation.

Hi, Thanks for that. I followed your instructions and it worked. Re dropbox, megaupload.com has been closed down so I am cautious about cloud based repositories when the data I am uploading is important.

Thanks for the update, I'm glad that works and on Khad's behalf, you're welcome.



As for Dropbox, your data is still stored on your local computer before it is synced to the cloud. Dropbox is different from other cloud services because it always keeps a copy of the data on your drive. In addition to that, 1Password also backs up your 1Password data by default on your local drive, so even if Dropbox is immediately shut down, nothing happens to your 1Password data and 1Password will continue to work just fine.
