Unlocking 1PW in FireFox

Hi, I've installed the extension in FireFox, but when I try to use 1P by entering "Ctrl+\" the keyboard does not respond. I then try to select the 1P key button on the toolbar and I enter my master password and I get a message that it is connecting and it begins counting numbers. It continurs up into the hundreds. I dont know what theses are. It doesn't correspnd to the number of logins stored in my 1P account. I am never able to utilize 1P to login. Does anyone know what is happening?

Welcome to the forums, padidiver. I'm sorry that you are having this problem.

Could you tell me what version of 1Password, Firefox, and the 1Password extension you are using?

Hello, I'm having this issue now as well. Things were working first thing in the morning, then I was prompted to update my Firefox plugin. Once I updated it, instead of the password database unlocking within the browser, I'm getting what you see in the attached image. The numbers seem to be basically counting up forever.

    I'm now running:

    Firefox 10.0.02

    1Password 1.0.9.283

    Firefox Plugin 3.9.0

  • I'm also seeing the same issue.

    Firefox 10.0.2

    1Password 1.0.9.283

    Firefox plugin 3.9.0
  • For a bit more information, I tried what you (Khad) suggested in this post and it did not help. Nor did disabling all extensions except for 1Password. I normally run with only three extensions installed: NoScript, Adblock Plus and Ghostery.

I did see here that someone got things working by removing their entire profile and recreating it, but that's a step I very much do not want to take.

As a test, I did create a new profile without deleting my old one (run firefox.exe -p to start the profile manager) and installed the 1password plugin and no others. I got the "connecting..." problem the first time I tried opening it, but after closing/re-opening Firefox it worked just fine.

I then went back into my normal profile and removed the 1Password plugin from there. I then re-installed it, restarted Firefox and the plugin now (mostly) works. I can manually open my password store, but opening by keyboard shortcut does not work. I get the error as shown in the below image (EDIT: this issue happens on the brand new profile as well).

As an aside, when I first installed the plugin this morning, I was not prompted to restart Firefox (I understand this is because of the new style plugin), but this time 1Password required me to shut Firefox down before it would install.

I also have problems with Password helper (red exclamation mark) using Firefox 10.0.2 even I check the "Do not track" Function. If I uncheck this Function the exclamation mark disappiers. I don't know if it's normal or not, or if this can help further.

sankuru, the links to the images you posted are broken. Could you try just attaching them to the post? I'm working with the developer to see what we can do here. I had a similar problem and simply removing and reinstalling the extension resolved the problem for me.

Try restarting the Helper (Help > Restart 1Password Helper).

1Password for Windows requires all browsers to be closed during installation.

That is interesting, Robby. You can reproduce that consistently?

I don't know whether it's consistently or not, but in my case this is the simptom. I checked and unchecked the function and always the same behaviour. This happens only on my Win7 cause the function seems to have no consequences on my OS X 10.7.3. In both cases i use FF 10.0.2 and 1Password Plugin 3.9.1.b1. Honestly i cannot find a logical correlation between the Helper and the function.

Sorry, had Dropbox issues there for a moment. The images are back.

Done, and it made no difference. Same with Removing/re-installing the plugin. Also, this problem does not occur for me with plugin version 3.9.0.39099 on Chrome 18.0.1025.56.
  • The newly released 1.0.9.284 fixes this issue for me.

    Thanks!

It's still not working for me. It just keeps counting up and ctr\ is not working as mentioned. By the way, the icon has a red exclamation mark

    W7 64

    1pw 1.0.9.285

    FF 11

    FF 1pw addon 3.9.0

as a side note, firefox spell check doesn't work with this forum and the forum doesn't have it's own spell check, very annoying.

  • I was also having a problem with the new Firefox plugin, even with the new versions and having tried everything suggested in the links Khad provided. The way I was eventually able to fix it was closing Firefox, going into my Firefox profile directory (C:\Users\ehgj76r\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\{profile dir}) and moving the "OfflineCache" and "startupCache" folders to the recycle bin.

Thanks, Megamoose. There was another user who mentioned using "Clear Recent History" (which includes "Cache" by default) to resolve things. What is strange to me, though, is that even creating a brand new Firefox profile has not worked in some cases. If it were a cache issue then starting with a clean slate would have done the trick.

Regardless, I am glad things are working for you, and I definitely appreciate your information! There are still some things we are tracking down and every little bit helps. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
  • I'm using Windows Vista, Firefox 11, and 1P 1.0.9.287. The keyboard command (Control \) no longer works. When I click on the 1P icon I'm told no login is stored for the site. But if I scroll thru the list of logins that appears just below, find it, and click on it, it works. So it seems that 1P is not realizing that it it actually DOES have the login infor needed for the page I'm on. What do I need to do so that the keyboard command will work again?
In case it helps someone else, I've f've fixed my own problem. I turned off Firefox. In the Help menu for 1P, clicked on Restart Helper. That fixed things.

I found this fix after poking around on this forum, user guide, etc. The answer came in a document for troubleshooting the helper. Strangely, tho, the only browser references were to Safari. I assume this simply means that some of the support documentation for the latest version of 1P, its browser extensions, and the helper have not been entirely updated in order to read compatibly for all browsers. This was simple problem to fix, but I had a hard time finally finding the fix. Nevertheless, I'm grateful for the existence of this forum, which helped me eventually find the solution. 1P is my favorite & most-used application.

A hearty thanks for the very kind words, Pat! I'm glad that things are working well for you now.

Thanks also for updating the thread. Could you post a link to the document where you are seeing references to Safari? I'd love to update it if it needs to be refreshed. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
