Mixing Extensions & Main 1P App

Interesting situation...I run the latest of the following browsers (in alphabetical order):

Firefox

Goggle Canary

Goggle Chrome

Safari
When using the latest beta extensions, with the latest beta 1P app, I typically receive a "syncing" message from the 1P drop-down in Safari. Also, 1P's main app states I have to install an already installed Safari extension. So, I started experimenting and found that when I installed the non-beta 1P app and and left any beta extension for any of the above browsers that the main 1P app would show that I needed to install the Safari extension. When I reverted all of the extensions to non-beta, coupled with the non-beta 1P app the issue went away.

Can beta and non-beta of both the 1P main app and extensions be properly mixed? I know you can be directed, via the 1P main app, to the extensions webpage and select a beta extension if you wish. Thanks.

Interestingly, the current beta version of the extension (3.9.1.b1) is actually the exact same extension as (3.9.0). Only the version was was changed to force an update for those in the beta channel.

I'm not sure why you would be seeing a difference between the two since their code it the same.

And, to answer your question, you can absolutely mix beta and stable channels between app and extension. Just be sure to stay up to date with whichever you are using. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Depending on what all you are swapping around there, you may need to reinstall the extension (beta or stable) in order for it to work. Best to just pick stable or beta and stick with it unless you need to switch.

I hope that helps. Let me know if you can reproduce any problem after reinstalling the extension. If so, please provide specific version numbers.

Just a heads-up that the latest beta extension 3.9.3.39302 will not mix-n-match with anything but the latest beta 1P app Version 3.9.5 (39500.009, g0c55451) when using Google Canary.

It's not so much that the extension requires a certain version of 1Password but that Chrome 19 does. From the 1Password 3.9.5 release notes:

Added support for Chrome 19 and the latest WebKit nightly builds.

Also in the latest 3.8 beta (3.8.19.BETA-3):

Updated 1Password Helper to allow communication with latest Google Chrome Canary and Chrome 19. This should also fix communication with WebKit nightly as well.

As long as you are using the latest beta version of the app, you can use either stable or beta extensions as usual.
