Missing Master password problem

I have a Macbook 2 Ghz Intel core 2 duo running Snow Lepoard 10.63; iPhone 3; an iPad wifi and 3G. I originally loaded 1Passport on to my iPhone approx 1 year ago but entered only the Unlock Code but not the master password (thinking I would do that later.) Wrong! I contacted Agile Support some time ago and was told it was impossible to backtrack and remedy the situation.

I am running 1Password version 3.11 on my iPhone and just loaded 3.11 on my iPad. The Macbook has version 3.2.5 The problem is when I try to sync all three units I'm stymied because I cannot set up the sync on my iPhone and it contains all my passwords. (when setting up my iPad and Macbook I properly entered a Master Password but I am still "no go" on the iPhone because it does not have a master password.

Any ideas out there on how I can rectify the situation and have all 3 syncing and have my passwords on all 3 units? Help.

Hi Don. Welcome to the forums!

I'm really sorry for the difficulty you've been seeing. We should get your data syncing properly between your iPhone, Mac and iPad. Since your data is on your iPhone, let's first work on getting syncing sorted about between your iPhone and your Mac.

Before doing anything (particularly if you have data that hasn't been synced elsewhere), make a backup of your 1Password data from your iPhone. Everyone should always do this either before a phone upgrade, an app upgrade, or just because backups are good to have.

To make the backup, go to More ... > Settings > Database > Backup and Restore and just follow the instructions it provides about where you should point a web browser.

This will allow your encrypted data to be downloaded through any web browser.

You report that you can't seem to set your master password? What happens if you go to More ... > Settings > Security and try to reset your master password? If it insists on an existing password, try your unlock code. 1Password may have used your unlock code as a master password if you never set the later.

Please give that a try and let us know what happens.

You mentioned that you can't get synching to work between your iPhone and your Mac. I'd like to know what stage in the process things fail. Again, go to More ... > Settings > Wifi Sync and turn things on. You should be presented with some one-time authorization codes (secret words). If you open up 1Password on your Mac and are on the same local network, 1Password on your Mac should prompt you for those secret words. If it doesn't, then there is probably a problem with network configuration which we are happy to help sort out.

So please give these a try and report back what does (or doesn't) happen.

I'm confident that we will be able to get this sorted out for you, but it may take a bit of back and forth trying to see exactly why things aren't working.

    Cheers,

    Hi Don,

Thank you so much for letting us all know that it works.

1Password Pro and 1Password for the Mac are each great, but when you get them working together I'm sure you will find them much better than the sum of the parts.

    Cheers,
