Just Updated to latest 1Password Touch on iPhone-Cannot Sync Password Issue

Hi

After downloading and installing the latest version of 1Password for the iPhone it seemed like a good time to sync with the Mac. Everything checked out OK, the App Store loaded telling me the Wi-Fi was OK and visual checks of the setting did not reveal anything amiss.

The Mac 1Password indicated that the iPhone was synced 30 weeks ago, it might have been 4 to 6 weeks but that is all.

I duly followed the instructions on khad’s intro message which suggested Starting a New Topic.

When I was asked to enter my DropBox Password I was somewhat stumped [off base?], it certainly is not amongst my usual choices.

In 1 Password on the Mac the DropBox password is about as long as my arm, not a problem when it is able to be input automatically. If I had to enter that when setting up DropBox on the iPhone I most certainly would have found an suitable alternative. [I really did not know what was coming <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_thinking.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='(think)' /> ]

I now have lost [s]4[/s] [5 currently because I retried the Master Password used to access 1Password on the Mac] lives on my iPhone DropBox, the Mac DropBox still has the ‘Tick’ showing and I have 1Password open.

Reading the directions On-Line it implies I should be using my Master Password that is used for opening 1Password [it is certainly not the one I have used previously for accessing 1Password on the iPhone], but on the iPhone the password the instructions state ‘Master Password for the iPhone‘. All I have is a PIN IIRC?

It seems the easiest solution is to set up DropBox on the iPhone again? [We live and learn or should that read ‘Ah B***** Ah‘?]

Please tell me how to proceed from this point.

Thank you,

EDIT: Still searching for an answer the article ‘Wi-Fi Sync Troubleshooting Guide‘ has been found. It suggests switching from Wi-Fi to DropBox Synch.

IIRC, and my ‘forgetter is definitely getting better’, the sync has previously always taken place over Wi-Fi.

So it seems I have tripped over some information that did not take into account my situation?

I have found the item on removing the 1Password App from the iPhone so I am about to commence the necessary procedure.

Not a good experience. Eventually I managed to ‘download’ 1Password Pro v 3.6.5, well it ‘appeared’ to download the progress bar and indication that it was 1P etc. The iPhone was duly synced but at the expected point in the process no actual transfer took place. Do I get brownies for trying? <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_time.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='(o)' /> <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_coffee.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='(coffee)' /> more <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_time.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='(o)' /> more..... How many for 10 tries? All nil result.

But never say............ It was finally downloaded direct to the iPhone.

So what is the next problem going to be? [This was written in a jocular manner and I should have kept it to myself?]

Ever tried entering a password comprising Upper and Lower Case Characters, Numerals and Symbols totalling 60 key presses on an iPhone?

In the first place I do not remember ever having used 1Password to generate a password of that length and usually opt for 20 IF the host allows that many.

Is it possible that a password of 20 characters long could have been triplicated by a dithering finger?

Otherwise it seems very strange that the first 20 characters were repeated twice.

But this sad tale of woe is not over and there is nothing more I can do.

DropBox made short work of putting the 1Password DB on the iPhone but now I am unsure if I can trust using it.

It is painfully obvious that however the 60 character long password came into use my entry of it allowed the process to continue, so it must be the correct DropBox password.

I copied the DropBox Log In password directly from 1Password display on the Mac.

DropBox stores the same information so that they can be accessed by me.

Why then does the DropBox password on my newly updated iPhone show a completely different password that is a mere 20 characters long? It is not the same as the first 20 characters in my ‘proper’ DropBox password.

Factor in the Appleisms involved when attempting to download an App that has been purchased previously.

Only three sets of totally useless instructions, each costing <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_time.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='(o)' /> + <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_coffee.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='(coffee)' /> to wade through until proven pointless.

Followed by the download farce illustrated above, I confess to not being very happy.

Being unhappy will be a passing event, having the wrong password and potentially passwords stored in my iPhone

is NOT something that I can live with.

Your prompt response will be much appreciated.

FURTHER EDIT: Problem solved! The whole DropBox Update is a load of rubbish. In fairness I am too b....... tired right now to check all of the passwords but those viewed are all totally wrong.

PS. This has been edited many times and my ramblings have served to vent my frustration, other than that I would have been shouting obscenities and waking up my neighbours because I have been up for most of the night in a vain attempt to get this sorted.

HELP!

Stan, I must be honest. Your post is a bit confusing to follow. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I'm not sure if things are now working for you or not. If you are still having trouble, could you summarize the current issue in a single sentence? I'd love to help!

    Hi khad

Thanks for your message, in reply ‘I am able to use 1Password satisfactorily at this time’.

I hoped the last line would say it all? Help meaning I need Help. However it is all changed again now after a couple of re-sync attempts the iPhone has the same passwords as the Mac.

    Regarding the rambling post:

It was ‘recorded as I attempted to make progress through what was, IMHO, a complete shambles. Factor in the Apple cr** and it was sufficient to drive me almost completely nuts.

There have been so many changes that it is difficult for a user who just needs the facilities of 1Password, without regular trawling of the Agile pages, to keep abreast of requirements and methods of use.

Having to wade through masses of information, trying to ascertain if it relates to your present situation, is not helpful when you come up against problems experienced in the above scenario.

IMHO the injection of ‘information/direction/suggestion’, on various issues, by individual members of the Agile Team presents a disjointed and confusing ‘help’ situation for 1Password users.

1Password has gone from being one of the most slick and smooth Applications, in my experience, to one of the most irksome and problematic.

    Examples:

The installation on my Mac is set up to sync via DropBox, why does it confuse the issue by displaying references to sync via Wi-Fi and tell me it has not been synced for 30 weeks?

I am concerned as to how DropBox was able to load my iPhone with rubbish passwords, that has the potential for disastrous consequences.

When a similar situation arises again I would like to think that within the Help pages I could quickly find a solution to my problem by accessing a section that relates to my set up, and does not waste time by rambling on about subjects irrelevant to that set up.

I am glad things are working well.
The installation on my Mac is set up to sync via DropBox, why does it confuse the issue by displaying references to sync via Wi-Fi and tell me it has not been synced for 30 weeks?
Because you have also configured 1Password to sync via Wi-Fi. On your Mac, if your iOS device is listed in the sidebar under the SYNC section, you can just remove it by right-clicking on it and selecting "Delete…" Then there won't be any confusion. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

I am still not sure I understand what happened, so it will be hard to update our documentation to help with a similar situation in the future. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_worried.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':S' />

Could you walk me through it slowly? I am pretty dense, so the fewer words you use, the more likely I will be able to understand and help.

    Thanks in advance!
