Feature Requests: Command line access; sync with OS X keychain

Hi folks,

is there any way to access 1password from command line to retrive a password or is it possible at least to sync it with Mac Os X Keychain?

Thanks for letting us know you would be interested in these features, Speechkey. If you don't mind me asking, what would be the use case for such features? There are several ways to interact with 1Password data, and perhaps there is already one you don't yet know about that would fit your needs.

Since the Agile Keychain Format is more advanced than the OS X keychain (including cross-platoform syncing), I'm also wondering why you would want to try to shoehorn your 1Password data into a less robust format.

We always love feedback, and I thank you in advance for taking the time to help me better understand your requests.

    Cheers,
  • I would be interested in the CLI features, as I would like to be able to run command line scripts and have my secure 1Password-generated password inserted into the CLI password prompt easily, thus keeping the "one password" philosophy. If a script kiddie can run passwords against my machines programmatically then I would like to be able to use my CLI-based programs securely via 1Password. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
  • I guess the use case is:

As a user, I would like to be able to use 1Password with CLI-based (Terminal) passwords prompts, so that I can fully take advantage of the 1Password experience and not have to write down otherwise secure passwords in my wallet nor create passwords that are too short in order to remember them.

Thanks for letting us know, Steve, and welcome to the forums! I'll pass your vote for this along to the developers.

If we can be of further assistance in the meantime, please let us know. We are always here to help!
  • I'd like to note that I'd also be interested in command line interactions with 1Password. I also run 1Password on a Mac, and use the terminal extensively.

    Thanks!
