Why cant auto-login recognize ID to use when multiple IDs for same URL

HI

I did a search for this and could not find anything relevant in the forums.

I'm in the process of trying out 1Password before buying and although I like some features of the app I'm trying to understand if it's possible to get the automated login to work when having Multiple IDs for the same website.

I don't understand why it would be a hard issue as you select a link that is specifically attached to a certain user and password for the same URL.

I've dragged the login IDs from the 1Password app directly to the Safari 5.1.6 (build 7534.56.5) toolbar in OS X lion for both login IDs using the same URL (Citibank signon). I have a business and user card so I want it to auto signon based on the bookmark I use. (bookmark created from being dragged from the 1Password app)

Seeing as the 1Password app is trying to auto signon using this bookmark, why can it not know that this Safari bookmark was specifically created based on the dragged 1Password app Login icon (with it's User ID and password). Maybe the 1Password app can store the bookmark name that gets created to associate it?

I know I can switch off the auto and click the Safari extension and then select the login credential to use for the website but i'm trying to see if it possible to automate it.

just an FYI. I had the same issue trying to install the Safari extension as noted in another thread here.

Where it downloads the Safari extension and tries to open it using Parallels and install in a windows version of Safari, until i change it to use the 'open with'. Very frustrating until you figure it out. There must be some default your app extension .safariextz is causing OS X to decide this? Maybe you should switch the extension name to something else or make a .dmg? Parallels is a very widely used app so I would think this should be taken into consideration. You can't cover for every possible app conflict or you'll never finish but widely used app conflicts should be covered I would think. Maybe change your installer to recognize that Parallels is installed and change the association for the extension as part of the install?

This autosignon multiple IDs same URL feature not being available wouldn't prevent me from buying this app as I desperately need a more modern password application especially with all my mobile gadgets as well. You have an excellent app and I hope I can contribute to the forum and give you some suggestions/feedback that will make it even more productive. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

    Welcome to the forums, Brendan! Thanks for using 1Password. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

If you drag a Login item from the main 1Password window to your bookmarks bar in Safari, the specific account set up in that particular Login item is the one that 1Password will attempt to use when you access that bookmark. If you're having trouble, it may be because you dragged the wrong Login item or don't have multiple Login items for that site. You will need to first make sure you have a Login saved for each account you wish to use. Then drag each one into Safari. This is what we call 1Click Bookmarks.

If you're having trouble, try deleting the bookmarks in Safari and dragging the correct ones back in to recreate them. It might help to title them "Login - Home" and "Login - Work" or something similar so you can easily tell them apart. Please let me know how it goes.

The issue with VMs taking over file associations is not really one we can control. It is a preference you manually set which is beyond the control of 1Password. It is not the default behavior of Parallels or VMWare as far as I know. Most of us on the team use one or the other almost daily and have not had this problem because we never chose to open .safariextz files with Safari for Windows. You also need to have "Share Windows applications with Mac" enabled in the VMs configuration, so it takes at least a couple different settings to occur (not just one).

Only Safari could reclaim the file association. 1Password can't associate a file with another application on its behalf. Sorry you had some trouble, but I'm glad you were able to resolve the issue. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
