Trouble syncing via Dropbox

Running Lion with iMac trying to sync with two iPads. Software is up to date (1Password at 3.8.20). Agile keychain appears in all device drop boxes. Am I out to lunch with this version of Apple software?

    Jimbo,

1Password should be working quite well in OS X Lion 10.7.4. It has been since before the update was even released to the public several months ago.

I'm not certain that I understand what your trouble is. Could you please describe in as much detail what you are trying to do, the steps you are taking, and what you are [not] seeing happen?

    1. Are you able to open 1Password for Mac?

    2. If not, is there an error message? What does the error say?

    3. If you you are able to open the 1Password application, are you able to unlock it? Do you see your data there?

    4. Do you have a complete copy of your 1Password data on your Mac or one of the iPads?

With some additional information from you we can then provide you with specific assistance.

    Thanks!
  • I am trying to sync all three devices and have them update each other as new passwords are added regardless of which device creates the password. I can open 1P on all devices and see data in all three. Devices are connected to dropbox but data is not in sync. Data does not sync in either direction. That is if I set up a password in mac it does not move to the ipads and if i set up a password in the iPads it does not move to the Mac. If I look in dropbox on any device the agile keychain is there. I also noticed that autosave does not work on the mac and autosubmit only works on the Mac and not the iPads. Hope I am being clear. I might mention that other features like wallet and accounts are not synced either. Thanks

Thanks for the additional information, Jimbo.

Can you tell me what path is listed in 1Password's preferences for your data file? Here is a screenshot of my own showing the path as:
Users > khad > Dropbox > 1Password > 1Password.agilekeychain
Also, can you confirm that Dropbox is running on your Mac? It might sound obvious to you, but some folks don't realize that nothing will sync if Dropbox isn't running and doing the syncing. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Please try a little test for me:

    1. Add a new item to 1Password on your Mac.

    2. Then log in to the Dropbox website: https://dropbox.com

    3. Open the 1Password.html file inside 1Password.agilekeychain

    4. Enter your master password to access the 1PasswordAnywhere feature

Do you see the item you created on your Mac in the 1PasswordAnywhere web interface?

This is the path for datafile in preferences. Not exactly what you have.

A newly created password DOES show up in 1 Password anywhere
  • Sorry about the screenshot - path is users>jswyler>dropbox>1Password.agilekeychain

It sounds like syncing is working well, you probably just need to reset it on your iPads. Please follow the steps in my post here to rebuild your data file and reset syncing:

Please let me know how it goes.
  • Hi Khad

All seems to be fine in 1P land. Some weirdness with passwords for the two iPads. I suspect 1P doesn't like two different master passwords for the two iPads while both have the same email account. Got it sorted by using the Mac master password on all devices. Thanks so much for your help!

Your master password does not have to be the same between 1Password for Mac/Windows and your 1Password iOS app(s). Many users like to have a less-complicated one for 1Password iOS apps because of the interaction using the much smaller virtual keyboard. Because they do not have to be the same, they are never synced from one device/platform to another.

However, when setting up syncing you will prompted for your Mac/Windows master password if it does not match the one in the app.

I'm glad everything is working well for you, though. Let me know if you ever have any other questions. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

    Cheers!
