Feature request: Duplicate passwords

IN reviewing some of your blog posts, it occurs to me that it would be useful to have some way to warn a user that a new password is a duplicate of a password used in another 1Password entry, and some way to scan existing entires to easily allow existing duplicate passwords to be identified.



I know I can export the password list to a CSV file and then suck it into something like Excel, sort the table, and identify duplicates that way, but it would be nice if this functionality was built in, particularly given the recent password incidents and the interesting article on [url="http://arstechnica.com/security/2012/08/passwords-under-assault/"]Arstechnica[/url]

I agree that such a feature could be very handy — a little warning: "Psst. You've used that password before. Are you sure you want to do that?" We could include a link to a nice support article that explains the dangers of password reuse. We have discussed this internally (and perhaps on these forums as well) in the past. Of course, if you are using the built-in Strong Password Generator as 1Password was designed for this will never be an issue. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />



For now, there is no need to export anything to plain text. We do not recommend doing that unless you are actually exporting the data for import into another application. Simply search for the known reused password:

You can also sort by password strength which will help you easily spot passwords which are not strong enough to have been generated by 1Password:
