Cannot detect 1Password application from browsers

On one of the iMacs we have 1Password installed, we cannot get them to work on browsers. Upon installing the extension and clicking on the key in the toolbar on Safari, for example, it says: "We couldn't detect the main 1Password application".

1Password itself runs. The diagnostics gives a couple of error messages:

Settings show you are using the Agile Keychain, but no Agile Keychain exists at /Users/.../Library/Containers/com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper/Data/Documents/1Password.agilekeychain.

The 1Password Helper process is not running. This can cause problems with the 1Password browser extensions. Please run the 1Password application, and choose the 1Password > Preferences menu option to review your Extensions settings.

The 1Password Helper background process is not set for automatic starting. This will prevent access to keyboard shortcuts, Universal Unlock and data syncing of items between 1Password and the browsers. Please choose the 1Password > Preferences > Extensions pane and enable the checkbox for 'Keep helper running ...'.
- We have no problem syncing the database using dropbox, if that is what the first message might refer to.

- I don't know how to review extension settings as the pane doesn't find any installed extensions. It says extensions are available... "install Extensions" - I have done that countless times on each browser (we have safari, chrome, firefox)

Please advise on how to proceed. We want to roll out 1password to more users that are less patient/sophisticated - it should be a seamless experience to move from one machine to another, with browser extensions working.

Welcome to the forums, agm! Thanks for taking the time to contact us. I'm sorry that you are having some trouble.

It sounds like you may have generated the Diagnostics Report using the standalone tool designed for 1Password 3.9 (from the Mac App Store) but are actually using 1Password 3.8 (from the AgileBits website).

To help us track down the issue more quickly, could you please send us a Diagnostics Report generated from within 1Password 3.8? Please do not use the standalone tool if you are not using the Mac App Store version of 1Password.

In 1Password 3.8, just select Help > Troubleshooting > Diagnostics Report from the menu bar.

Then attach the entire file to a private support ticket which you can open by clicking here:

    http://support.agile.../discussion/new

Please include a link to this thread in order that we might more quickly "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in the support ticket.

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, though.

I am having the same problem. Safari shows that the extension is installed with no updates need, but it won't detect the main app. Sending you a diagnostic report too.

    Thanks

Welcome to the forums, Rosa! If we haven't replied to your support ticket yet, we will soon. Thanks!
  • I have the same problem under Chrome browser. I think this might have started after Mountain Lion latest update. Safari also says "We couldn't detect the main 1Password application" but after a few more clicks it starts working as usual. Chrome does not...

Welcome to the forums, Michael! Please update 1Password to the current version. The version you are running (3.8.18) is from almost half a year ago. If you're still having trouble after updating to the current version of 1Password and restarting Chrome, please send us a Diagnostics Report as mentioned above (and in the steps when you click the "Troubleshooting" button in the extension popup). • hello,

I have the exact same problem.

I've gone through all the troubleshooting points, but nothing helped.

I'm on osx 10.8.1 MacBook Air

    and the 1P Version 3.8.20 (build 31499)

    All browser extension don't work

1Password works fine (it's the downloaded version)

On the helper: when I click on "install 1Password" it tries to install the App store version

the same configuration works on my iMac!

hope to get a fix soon!
