Using Hazel to Rename and Move Vault Backup

Hi,



I'm trying to use Hazel to rename vault backups (remove the date and time from the name) and then move the file to Dropbox. The problem is that the vault backup requires my admin password to be renamed (even from the Finder). Does anyone know a way around this?

There is no reason intrinsic to Knox that your backups would require administrator privileges in order to be modified. It sounds like there is something specific about your setup which is causing this to be the case.



1. Is the account under which you are running an admin account?



2. What is the full path of your backup folder?



3. Which account owns the backup files?

I can copy the backup from the command line. Renaming or removing requires sudo.

Haha... I think I see the issue here... the sparebundle needs to be writable (drwxr-xr-x) to be renamed without sudo.

Ah. A sparsebundle (as opposed to sparseimage) is reported as a folder rather than a file. A sparseimage can be renamed easily. A sparsebundle (folder) needs elevated permissions. Were you able to sort it out, or did you still need some more help?

I tried setting some ACL's (delete, delete_child) on the backup directory which allowed me to remove the sparse bundle without problems, but I still could not rename. Therefore, I went the simple route and had Hazel "chmod +w" before renaming and moving, and that works.



Now if I could have Knox automatically create a backup after the vault is unmounted... <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
