Sticky translation? (Dutch remains when switching to German or Dutch visible at all)

Is this bug reproducible?

- Yes also when switching to french

- My guess is partially this translation is done using iOS translation and not native app-translation?

Which devices did this bug appear on and is it reproducible on any devices?

- iPad mini, although probably not related

A quick summary of the bug:

- In e-mail accounts, even when switching to other languages, the 'pre-selected' fields remain Dutch

Detailed Step-by-step instruction on how to reproduce it:



Synced my version 3 db from dropbox

Looked through the app

Switched device to German (and event. to French)

Got in DB->E-mail accounts

Translation follows through except for the 'username/server/port/password' fields which where still in Dutch

(I entered those in English from the OSX version long time ago)



In version 3 of the app on the same ipad (mini) they show up in english (as they are in the OSX version)



Looking in 'web passwords they come up 'german' but those mail accounts (repetitively) show up Dutch



To add in - when originally starting (just switched back to Dutch) the app in 'Dutch' iPad mode, all fields are in English (so no Dutch translation prob.) but those E-mail fields do get translated ... also their "Categorie" (in English) is called "E-mailaccount" (which is Dutch) as the German selection showed "E-Mail-accounts" (which is correct in German)

They only 'bug' there would be that in Dutch they are called 'single' (hence account, not accounts) and not multiple?



Is this helpful? Are you working on a Dutch translation (and/or require input)?



Same goes for 'Software Licenses' fields btw! (sorry, still testing as I was typing this)

    Hi Tom,



    I believe this may be an issue with the state restoration feature, where the app resumes from where you left the app, and since that state had different language in it, it may have resumed with that language still in use.



    The data is stored as an encrypted state on your device, in case you were wondering about that.



    So, to confirm this, can you restart the 1Password fully, this will reset the state and see if it'll fix the issue. To do this:



    1) Press the Home button twice, it'll bring up the app switcher

    2) Find 1Password, tap and hold it for a few seconds till you see the red "-" mark shows up

    3) Tap the "-" mark to close the app

    4) Press the home button to get rid to the app switcher

    5) Open 1Password and see if it'll work better now

  • They still turn up in Dutch ... to show you the results see below screenshot, as you can see the German language is selected, even the 'naming' below "Wilhelmina" is in German but the fields containing information show up Dutch. Rebooting the iPad with or without first 'killing' the App doesn't produce a different result.

    I just realized we don't have 1Password in Dutch, so what you're seeing is probably from iOS itself, not 1Password.



    Yes, we're working on a Dutch translation with the help of folks here that've signed up with our translations project here: http://forum.agilebits.com/index.php?/topic/11151-help-us-translate-1password/



    You can help us as well, just sign up for an account there and you can add translated strings there, which will speed up the chances of 1Password having Dutch support sooner.

    By the way, I'm going to ask a few of my co-workers to test the language switching to see what kind of impact they're seeing because I'm not able to reproduce it on my devices. I'll let you know how it turns out.
  • I first started the app in 'Dutch' and choose the import from DropBox ... but the dropbox on my desktop (OSX) and my devices (iOS, iphone & ipad mini) are all in English, so no idea where the Dutch strings came from and why they are sticky.



    Hopefully you can get a repetitive mode <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

    We can't reproduce this but the good news is that we just release beta 24, which now includes a native Dutch translation for 1Password 4. Please do try it and see if that helps at all.



    In addition, those items you mentioned, they were never created in the 1Password 4 app, right? Only in English elsewhere?

    No they were never created in the beta-app, I just did a one-time sync from dropbox to the beta app and then broke the sync to do the beta-tests.



    On beta25 the issue is still present, in more close detail

    - Credit-cards shows English for 'cardholder, number pin' in every language

    * Note that the 'notes' field shows up in Dutch ('notities') for all those languages

    - Mail-acccounts shows Dutch for all fields as indicated above

    - Identities shows in English for every language

    - etc.



    So it seems the field information is gathered from the data(base/file) somewhere and does get translated 'sometimes'.

    If I'm the only one with this issue it might just be a non-obvious glitch or a one-time error/issue.

    I think I know what happened, or at least what may make sense the most.



    Here's the situation: Any items you create with the language at that time will remain in that language for good including its translated field names. While that item may be in Dutch, the app itself may change into a different language and that item's fields and data will still remain Dutch. In 1Password 4, field names are a part of the item because now you can create custom sections and custom fields.



    What may have happened in your case is that when you first set up the sync with Dropbox in 1Password 4, all items are downloaded and converted into new items into the 1Password 4's data structure. So if it was in Dutch, those items are now containing Dutch-field names and will remain as such for the lifetime of the items.



    I'm guessing if you were to create a new item in German right now and switch back to Dutch, that item will show up as German.



    Can you confirm that theory for me?

  • Even went up to Spanish as that was never used on the pad ...



    Created a new entry in logins using spanish, but after restating to Dutch it did translate the strings to Dutch - switched to German and they come up in German, either something post-b29 fixed it or something else is going on ...



    Anyway, it seems to work, think you can cross this of the list than as it might have been a race condition or is seomthing highly unlikely to occur.
