Folder frenzy

Is this bug reproducible?

Yes

Which devices did this bug appear on and is it reproducible on any devices?

iPhone 4, so far

A quick summary of the bug:

Folders that items are dropped into are confusing me a bit by not currently displaying the folder that the item itself is in, and when revisiting the folder structure, it appears that the item is a level higher than the folder you just put it in.

Detailed Step-by-step instruction on how to reproduce it:

Go to Categories, then select an item

Once the item opens, you should see the Select Folder banner at the top - notice that when you scroll down, you can pick a folder to place the item in. By default, it will pick a random highlighted folder that it currently does not reside in...which is confusing - the highlighted folder makes it appear that that particular folder is the folder the item resides in. Furthermore, select a different folder, like 1 on top of it. Now perform the same operation by attempting to select a different folder for the item. Notice the highlighted folder? It's not the same one as the one you just selected - it has gone up a level to the folder name on top of the one you just put it in. Visualizing this would be manually creating folders with the names of "folder1", "folder2" and "folder3". When you drop the item in "folder3" and then go to repeat the action "folder2" will now be selected instead. This might now be a bug but it's just confusing to me I guess.

Also notice that the highlighted folder is in blue, and the folder name itself is in white. The folder text is blurry overall - or is it just my bad eyes with that color combination of blue and white? I'm second guessing myself I suppose, though my eyes aren't good to begin with <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> so...I need another opinion on that one.
On a related note, it would be nice (if you would consider) to know what folder it's currently in. With the folders I have to choose from, and over a thousand items...I know the task is more suited for the real app - no doubt. Though, considering that some people only have the app and not the desktop version (or I'm lazily sorting through them while waiting on something and all I have is my iPad or iPhone), it might be helpful to know where the item is and if it's filed away in a folder. As a possibility, you could have one highlighted color (if you didn't want to put it on the card itself) that shows the current folder of the item and then it's a signal that the card is filed until you give it a new folder to move to.

I'd also like to see Smart Folders as an option, though I don't know how much of a challenge that is in iOS. The Smart Folder would remedy part of that problem above by allowing someone to create the "Folder is <blank>" rule and then file their stuff away on their own. Going through 1,000+ items and not knowing what folder they are in (as well as IF they are in one to begin with) on the iOS app is limiting.

I know I have ~400 that are unfiled, but I don't know that when using the iOS app. It would be nice to know that and manage them appropriately.

Thanks for the awesome app! v4 looks wonderful so far!

    Hi Brian,

We do plan to reconsider the way Folders work in 1Password 4 further down the line. We know we can do better here.

Right now, it should definitely show you the folder it is in by pressing the Folder icon on top of the item detail view. The blue highlighted should be the folder it's in.

I wonder if it is a bad cache data. Could you restart the 1Password data completely and see if it'll fix it? The way to restart an application on iOS is:

    1) Press the Home button twice, it'll bring up the app switcher

    2) Find 1Password, tap and hold it for a few seconds till you see the red "-" mark shows up

    3) Tap the "-" mark to close the app

    4) Press the home button to get rid to the app switcher

    5) Open 1Password and see if it'll work better now

    Does that help at all?

    Please let me know!

Thanks Mike. I'll try this out with the latest beta and see what happens after closing it out. I would have replied sooner, but for some reason, I never get notifications from this forum, ever. Checked all settings, I'm subscribed, nothing in my spam, etc., and I never get them on any device, email, etc. Sorry for the delay.

    Hi Bbinder,

No worries. The latest beta also have some fixes with the Folders layout when you're viewing it via the top bar of an item.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure what's going on with forum's email notifications, they do have some problems with that and we're trying to find a workaround for this.
