1passwordANYWHERE

I am a new user to the product on WinXP and my IPAD.

I am generally very pleased with the product.

I syncronize between both via DropBox and it works great.

Now I am at work in the office on a WIN7 desktop with IE9.

I want to access my data and I was very happy to see that you have the 1passwordAnywhere option.

But it's not possible because you do not support IE.

It's a real problem to me because it's a big company and I am not allowed to install any private software on it. So using FireFox or Chrome is not an option.

It is very strange for me that you don't support the most popular desktop platform. WIN + IE ??

Although it's not proper (Dont' tell) I installed Chrome and try to access directly from dropbbox like explained in the support site. I couldn't get it working.

I also tried to access it offline after downloading the folder from dropbox and aslo this option failed.

Even if it will somehow work at the end. It is much too complicated and sensative.

I am not a compuet genius, but I am a prety advabced user and I think this option is not a reasonable solution.

This option should be desigen to work also if on the go I have a compter in a cafe or a hotel.

So it must be very rubst and not so sensative to the environment.

When googling it I saw that I am not alone and alot of people have trouble using this option.

1) How can I get it working now?

2) What can we look for in the future to have a decent plug & play solution.

Thanks,

Erez

Welcome to the forums, Erez! Thanks for taking the time to contact us.

Unfortunately Internet Explorer simply doesn't have what it takes to run the 1PasswordAnywhere web app. We wish it did since it is the default browser in Windows.

If you are using Chrome, simply visit the Dropbox website, log in to your account via Dropbox's web interface, and then open 1Password.html inside 1Password.agilekeychain.

Again, please be sure you are accessing 1PasswordAnywhere via the Dropbox website and NOT via your local file system. If you see file:/// in the address bar, you are loading it from the local file system and this will not work due to restrictions Chrome has in place. Make sure the address bar shows https://dropbox.com/ at the beginning of the URL.

If you're still having trouble, I'm not certain that I understand what the issue it. Could you please describe in as much detail as possible the steps you are taking, and what you are [not] seeing happen? You said it "failed", but that doesn't really allow me to help you very well. Was there an error message? What was the message? What is the exact URL in the address bar? With some additional information from you we can then provide you with specific assistance.

    Thanks!

Your data folder has been renamed so the backend "stuff" on the Dropbox servers don't know to handle the data as a bundle. Rename your data folder from "roniterez.agilekeychain" back to the default "1Password.agilekeychain" and it should work fine. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Let me know how it goes.
  • It works good now!! Thanks!!

From inside Dropbox it works with both Chrome and Firefox portable.

However, when it try it offline from the filesystem using FireFox portable with the URL: file:///C:/temp/1password.agilekeychain/

I get the same measges as before and it does not work.

    How can we solve this?

I think that using the firefox portable exe file is a good recoemndation for many users, because it enables you to access the data from any PC you run into even if has other browsers installed. You just need to have it on a USB stick.

Also, I did not rename the file. It's the name I gave my database when I 1st started it on the desktop software. There is no warning that this can cause trouble in the future. I think you should warn the users when they choose a name that it would not work with 1passwordanywhere.

    Thanks again,

    Erez

From the 1PasswordAnywhere section in the User Guide:

"Starting with version 13, Firefox tightened its security on opening local files. As result, Firefox will no longer load 1PasswordAnywhere from the local file system. You can still access 1PasswordAnywhere via the Dropbox website, however."

I'll see if we can make it clearer that the data should always be named 1Password.agilekeychain. Thank you for mentioning this. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
  • So what is the way to open the data offline if I have it on a USB memory stick and I am away from home?
So what is the way to open the data offline if I have it on a USB memory stick and I am away from home?
Ideally you would just access the data via Dropbox (which also means you don't have to worry about remembering the USB flash drive). However, you can simply use a different browser if you only have the data on a USB flash drive.

    1. Safari

    2. Chrome using the command line switch listed in the User Guide:
If you are using Google Chrome you cannot use 1PasswordAnywhere in “local file mode”, i.e. you cannot use a local file URL like file:///Users/dave/1Password.agilekeychain/1Password.html. Accessing 1PasswordAnywhere in this way will fail because Chrome will prevent it from loading any of its files. This limitation is because Chrome prevents web applications from running in this way; see the Local files doesn’t load with Ajax bug report for details.

The easiest way to workaround this is to store your 1Password.agilekeychain file on a web server or service like Dropbox. If you need offline access to 1PasswordAnywhere you will need to use another browser or modify Chrome’s settings by adding this command line option (note the two dashes at the beginning):

--allow-file-access-from-files
