Renaming 1Password.agilekeychain not advised?

Hello Agile Angels,

Thanks for a great product, interesting blog and a helpful forum.

I recently bought 1Password for Windows and stored all my important data into the file now named 1Password.agilekeychain

Can it do any harm if I start to rename the file after every change made to it?

For example:

04-dec-2012.agilekeychain

05-dec-2012.agilekeychain

After making a change I will only transfer the file to my other computer using USB.

Greetings,

Micha - The Netherlands

Welcome to the forums, Micha! Thanks for taking the time to contact us. It is not advised to rename your data folder. Some problems will occur if you are syncing to certain mobile platforms or using the 1PasswordAnywhere feature.

1Password already creates a backup of your data file every day the data is changed. This is completely automatic and already happening in the background if you have not explicitly disabled it. The backups are dated and sound like exactly what you're looking for for backup purposes.

The default location of the backups is:

    C:\Users\<username>\Documents\1Password\Backups

I hope that helps. Please let me know some more details about what you are trying to accomplish if the backups are not what you're looking for. With some additional information I can hopefully provide you with a suitable solution that doesn't involve renaming the data folder. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

  • Hi Khad,

    Thanks for your time.

I realised that what I was trying to accomplish would be just making things complicated without the need to.

I should just use 1Password and trust on my master password (thanks to Toward Better Master Passwords).

That built-in backup system is very robust, but it is important to have a complete backup strategy. Just make sure you are backing up your computer regularly (both onsite and offsite), and you should be solid. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Please do let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

    Cheers!
