Cannot set up Dropbox "Checking Dropbox" never finishes

I have the new iOS 1Password 4, and cannot seem to sync to Dropbox.

I have cleared out all data (Erase Data in Troubleshooting and deleted iCloud -- not sure how iCloud got in there), which restarted the setup process.

Per the pinned troubleshooting post, I rebuilt the data file from my Mac and let Dropbox sync up. I then went into 1Password and started the setup process.

I selected Dropbox as the sync source, and now 1Password is sitting at the setup screen with "Checking Dropbox" and a flashing Dropbox icon. This "checking" has gone on for 20 minutes so far, and shows no sign of stopping.

Any thoughts on how to fix this? 1Password 3 never had any trouble at all.

Thanks,

Nik

  • I am having this issue as well. I am stuck at the "Checking Dropbox" screen; tried several times, waited about 20 minutes... no go. iPad mini here. Force-quit the 1password app, still happens. Turned iPad off and back on, still happens. Deleted 1password app and reinstalled it, still happens. Any word on whether this is a temporary error or if there's something else I can do to fix this? Thanks!

I experienced this earlier myself. To stop it syncing with iCloud, turn off Documents & Data in your iCloud settings. It will at least get to try Dropbox then.

In my particular case I was setting the app for someone who had never used Dropbox syncing. I was under the misapprehension that they had moved their keychain to dropbox. As soon as I did that on the Mac, it seemed to work fine.
  • Not on iCloud here, so this didn't resolve it for me. Still stuck at the Dropbox connection screen <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_sadsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-(' />

Just a thought. Have you tried moving the keychain out of Dropbox, deleting it on Dropbox and then putting it back (BACKING IT UP FIRST!)?

It should just work but maybe that will help work around the issue whilst Agile fix it?
  • Getting there.... Follow up: on my Mac it said it was using dropbox for storage. The 1Password folder was not, however, in my dropbox. I disabled DB sync, then re-enabled it. The 1password folder showed up in Dropbox on the mac, along with the keychain file inside it. I made sure that my other devices were linked to the same dropbox folder. They are now, and the files are showing. The iPad mini had 1password set to use the wrong Dropbox folder. Still, on the iPad mini I am stuck at the "Checking Dropbox" screen. I can't tell it to use the right dropbox though, because even after deleting and redownloading 1password from the app store, it's still stuck on "Checking Dropbox". I would expect a setup process?
  • Hi,

I have same problem. Continuous non stop *checking for dropbox* and never resolves. I did however get an email sayign I added an app to dropbox ?

Then I tried stopping the App and restarting and deleting app and re-installing ..still same problem

I am unable to reach the main screen to use the reset data in settings as the admin post suggested.

If I turn on the data/document for Icloud... i get same problem with Icloud instead of dropbox.....

got them rolling each 20 mins, no go .....stopped everything and waited an hour to redo same thing, still no results

I will try to log on PC at home and check folders in dropbox, probably mix up in keychains/folder ect...

I will post back my findings

    thanks
  • I just picked this up on my iphone 4. I do not want to use icloud to sync.it just hangs on checking dropbox. I had gotten an error before about unable to find dropbox data but i cant check because im stuck on login and checking dropbox.

I figured it out. I moved my keychain file to a new folder, "1Password" at the root level of my Dropbox and the setup was quick and problem-free.

I had my 1Password file in a non-standard location, which never caused any trouble for version 3.whatever nor on the Mac version, but apparently it threw 1Password 4 for a loop.

Feature request: Let me browse to the keychain file so that I don't need to clutter up my root level with a 1Password folder.

Aight, I tried to rename or move around the folder and nothing. Finally decided to log to dropbox web site and delete\uninstal app permissions ...That did it, the loop was gone, i was back at first log on screen..selected (sync with dropbox) again and i got a error (sent automatic report to Agile) then got 2 errors (no internet connection) retry ....on 3rd attempts removed my WIFI to go back to 3G....bam worked , i'm back to login screen ....and back to continuous *checking dropbox*.....if tried with airport mode , loop is forever....

Went back to web site, killed app permission, and i'm back in, sync with icloud, unexpected crash, send report, now trying to sync icloud first instead of dropbox....and voila works....then app said i did not have a icloud database ? then where is my documents then ?? anyway clicked create new database, added new master PW ...done all set.

syncing dropbox via app in the settings menu gives me an error so the sync is broken somewhere

    retrospect (for me)

syncing dropbox first did not work

WIFI error message *no internet connection*

disabling app permission on dropbox web site helped me kill the continuous loop of *checking dropbox* or *icloud)

    sync via cellular worked
  • Same issue, iPad version. I have 1P-3 working no problem. Installed 4, told it to connect to dropbox and it's just hanging on the Connecting screen
  • I'am a new user of 1Password 4, and trying to sync with dropbox.

I have allowed access to Dropbox, but 1Password shows me red exclamation mark on dropbox icon and any new folders on dropbox was not created.

    Here is screenshot: Link

So could anybody help me to solve this issue?

I apologize for the delayed reply those of you who have been waiting a while. I've been working extremely long hours — we all have — since the launch.

The issue is often caused by some files in Dropbox that should not be there or missing files that should be. It depends on if you were previously syncing with Dropbox or if you are trying to start out as a new user.

If you are a new user, please follow the steps here:

    http://learn.agilebits.com/1Password4/iOS/Sync/Dropbox/stuck-dropbox.html

If you were previously syncing with Dropbox, please confirm for me that there is a file in the root of your Dropbox folder called .ws.agile.1Password.settings and tell me what its contents are when you click on it via the Dropbox web interface.

I'm going to close this thread since I think there may be several different confusing issues. Please start new threads like "Checking Dropbox — New User" and "Checking Dropbox — Previous Dropbox User" so I can make sure we're troubleshooting the right issue. I really want to get things working for you.

    Thanks so much!
