"Accounts" category

Hello,

The new iOS app does not include the "Accounts" category anymore. If I actually put an Account (as defined on the desktop app) in a folder, it converts it to "Login" and stops being an "Account" on the desktop version. Is the "Accounts" category being phased out?

That seems to be the case. If you look at 1Password 4 on the iOS side, the "Wallet" section is gone as well, with all of the items that were previously shown there appearing as their own categories, parallel with Logins. With that kind of consolidation, "Accounts" would probably be similar enough to "Logins" to be confusing.

We had a lot of trouble with the "Accounts" and "Wallet". In many cases it is hard to tell whether the item should belong to one or another.

In 1Password 4, every item category (item type) is listed separately. Also the order of categories can be changed. This allows you to sort the categories the way you like.

In addition to Generic Accounts, FTP Accounts also show up as Logins in the V4 iOS App. On the Mac, they still appear as Generic Accounts/FTP Accounts under the Accounts category.

This is important to note because it makes the item counts for Logins may look different on the phone vs desktop.

When I installed V4 on the iPhone, I thought there was a sync problem until I figured out this reclassification was going on. The count for Logins is higher on my phone because it includes all my FTP Accounts and Generic Accounts.

Databases, Email Accounts, Servers and Wireless Routers all remain their own categories on iOS.

Can't speak to AWS, IM, Instant Message, iCloud, since I didn't have any of those in my database.
  • I think the bigger issue here is 1P iOS v4's re-typing Accounts to Logins because it clumps my Logins and Accounts together now, which eliminates any organization of my total ~200 entries between the two categories. This now requires more effort to discern between several entries appearing when searching between two consolidated types rather than one. The problem consolidating Accounts entries with Logins entries is Accounts do not have login actions like the Logins entries do, so I need to be careful which I select if there's more than one appearing in a search. I had, and continue to have, good reason for creating an Accounts entry vs a Logins entry based on this difference.

Though I can still create Accounts in Mac v3.8.20, any edits made to the same entry later via iOS v4 convert it to Logins.

Further, when opening an empty Safari window, Safari Helper 3.9.9 shows all those entries converted by 1P iOS v4 as suggestions because the link field is empty in the entry, just like the browser bar.

Basically, eliminating a type is resulting in a cluster scenario.

Please add-back the generic "Accounts" category because not everything saved within 1P requires a login action to be utilized in a browser, and there are many entries that will not sensibly fall within the remaining categories appearing in 1P iOS v4.

    I agree 100% with dude1234.

I do NOT want 1Password assuming where I wish to put my information since that a) ruins the relationship between desktop and iOS versions and b ) confuses my own system of classification.

For example - I have account numbers for things like store loyalty programs stored under 'Accounts' in the Desktop version (3.8x) - they now appear as 'Logins' in the iOS app (4). That's simply ridiculous. I don't 'log in' anywhere with that info.

And I also had info for a very occasionally used web-mail address stored under 'Accounts' - no server info or site info, just the account log-in info to pass on to someone else, in case needed.

But in v4 of iOS, it a) appeared under 'email' and b ) in that category would not allow revealing of the password when I needed to read it. I fixed that by moving it to 'Logins' in the desktop version and re-syncing, but that disrupts my system of storing only _active_ and _personal_ logins under 'Logins' and keeping occasionally accessed info, and reminders for other colleagues under 'Accounts'.

I guess I now expect this kind of dumbing down from Apple (i.e. given the increased locking in of the OS with every version) but i really don't want it from independent software developers!

Or better yet, release 1P4 for desktops and we won't have to struggle with this inconvenience <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
