Rich Icons: Where do they come from?
Comments
-
They don't pull the icons from the data file they have to be resized. From what I understand its a manual thing at the moment. They are working on a script/app or something to have them pulled from the keychain file.
So basically your not alone its not just you. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0 -
Thank you for your kind words, rwakeford! As thightower hinted at, the icons are delivered from a separate server so they are not slowing down syncing of your data file. The image server will become better populated over time. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0

But if they're already on my Macbook Pro surely they're already on Dropbox ready to sync to my iPhone? The sync isn't slow, it's just that there are Rich Icons that haven't been copied across from the Macbook to my iPhone. I've spent hours getting some of the icons installed on the Macbook because they weren't downloadable automatically! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />Flag 0 -
If only the rest of the team saw this conversation. They would be laughing a bit since I am probably the one person on the team that has done the most customization of icons in my data file. I've even extracted iOS app icons to use so things looks "extra fancy." This change was a huge annoyance to me as well at first. It's not perfect yet, but as it improves syncing times will be much quicker. The Cloud Keychain Format used with iCloud syncing does not store any icons at all, so even though my Dropbox data is about 50 MB, my iCloud data is less than 1 MB. That's a substantial difference.
We're super busy right now with some other aspects, but of all people you be sure that I will be making sure that the image server is well populated and looking sharp in the coming weeks and months.
Your patience is greatly appreciated! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0 -
It's just as well that I use Dropbox instead of iCloud then because at least I have some icons! So, if I am to understand you correctly, the icons don't come from my Dropbox sync but the image server of Agilebits? There's nothing I can do but continually be patient. I don't understand why my icons aren't synced with the rest of my information but I'm just a user, not a programmer! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />Flag 0
the icons don't come from my Dropbox sync but the image server of Agilebits?
In the 1Password 4 for iOS app, that is correct.
We're trying to lay a good foundation for iCloud syncing between iOS and Mac. Syncing 1 MB of data is almost instant compared to 50 MB (just to use my own data file as an example).
The image server will definitely get better.Flag 0 -
Hi rconn2! Very well spotted.
The short answer is that imageserver.agilebits.com does not see the originating IP addresses. All requests come through Amazon's Cloud Front, so the incoming HTTP requests come from there.
Our view on your privacy is that it is impossible to misuse or leak data that we never have in the first place. So we simply don't collect any data. We would prefer not to have the responsibility of protecting such data, so we simply never have it.
Cheers,

j - thanks.
r - How do you "put an image in yourself" for a login in the App? Is there a way to save a site's favicon?
How does the imageserver function work? When does an image fetch occur: when a login is first entered? Does any later checking occur? How are images obtained for the imageserver? Is this manual or automated? For example, when will there be an image for westmarine or joespilotshop or off the beaten-path web sites? Most sites have favicons, why aren't they used or allow a user to get?Flag 0 -
Hi rconn2,
You are welcome. I should also let you know that the same is true for "News" fetching (see Settings > News). We never see the IP addresses of those queries. Those, obviously, aren't as sensitive as potentially learning what sites users have in the 1Password data, but it is still an extension that it is easier to protect privacy if we never get any user data in the first place.
I'm going to dodge the specific questions you asked about how it works, as many of those details are subject to change. At the moment, there is no way for you to add your own icons. To what extent to queue queries on your phone versus immediately checking when a Login is created or has its primary URL changed versus fetching icons immediately is subject to tuning.
We do have logs (without meaningful IP addresses) of queries that are effectively cache misses on the Cloud Front front end, and so we see what is being requested that isn't on the server, and we are getting feedback from users that is helping to test things. (We also had some server load tuning to do when 1P4 was first made available.)
The scheduling of checks for refreshes and the basic system for that is likely to change as well as we gain experience with this, so I'm going to remain vague until things settle down.
If you've got a specific concern where it really would be helpful to know those details of how things work today, I can get those answers for you, but as I said, much of this is subject to fairly rapid change.
Cheers,

I use 1PW 4 iOS on an iPad 3 as well as an iPad 2.
Just since 1/10/13, some of the login Rich Icons on my iPad 2 have turned into eBay icons. (Note: I don't have any eBay logins in my 1PW logins.)
Site examples pulling in the eBay icon - Comcast, Expedia, LaCie, OpenTable. (There are others not mentioned.)
I compared the prior Rich Icons, for these logins, on my iPad 3 and all previously were the Generic Rich Icon.
I've attempted toggling Rich Icons On / Off. (Turning my iPad 2 off with RI turned Off.) But, the eBay RIs return.
My iPad 3 (and my iPhone 5) is not - as of this writing - pulling in this eBay icon.
(I use Dropbox to sync all my 1PW installs.)
Any ideas?Flag 0 -

I just noticed the same thing today on my iPad 2. I didn't notice it until I applied the latest update to IPW 4.Flag 0 -

As of this post, I've just completed updating my iOS devices to v4.1.
When I updated my iPad 2, the Rich Icons were turned Off. Upon completing the update, I turned RI back On. Situation is the same.
I'm curious why this issue is happening only - at present - with 1PW 4 on my iPad 2. ...Through the course of the day, I use both of my iPads since they're in different rooms of my house.
I'm not having, nor have I had, any use (or sync with Dropbox) issues. 1PW 4 has been working smoothly.
Edited follow-up: I'm now seeing the eBay RI on my iPhone 5 v4.1. I guess my iPad 3 will soon p/u these eBay icons.
So, something is happening on AgileBits' Image Server. I trust it will get sorted out. But, please advise when correct RI's will be pushed out. ...Thanks.Flag 0 -
If I'm understanding your posts correctly, the eBay image had somehow become the default image in some cases. This has been fixed and will be pushed to the image server eventually.
Also, your other post in another thread was in a thread about 1Password 3 for Mac which does not use the image server at this time. I believe the idea is to use the image server in 1Password 4 for Mac just like in 1Password 4 for iOS, but I just wanted to make sure that was clear to avoid any unnecessary confusion (beyond what was already caused by the eBay shenanigans). <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0 -

1. My post in this thread is about the eBay icon invading 1PW 4 on iOS devices. ...I'm glad to hear the issue, on your image server, is resolved. Thanks for the update.
2. My other post, referenced in your link, has solely to do with customizing the Login icons, which I do understand initially come from the Login website, within 1PW 3.9.x Desktop. ...I've replied to your follow-up question in that thread.Flag 0 -
FYI, I'm seeing some icons, which were pulling in the eBay icon, correcting themselves, and I'm also seeing some remain (Expedia, Open Table as 2 examples).

When will the fix for the ebay icon be corrected? I am still seeing lots of ebay icons and have not seen any of them get corrected.
This is normal as the change propagates on the image server. It should be fully resolved within a week at the longest. There is nothing you need to do. It will resolve itself automatically.Flag 0 -

Try disabling "Show Rich Icons" in Settings > Display and then turn it back on. How are things looking now?Flag 0 -
The bolts themselves don't signify anything. The smaller "favicons" are just framed by the default Login item icon. The larger "apple-touch-icons" fill the entire area. Both are just two different ways in which websites provide icons for the address bar in your browser, icons next to bookmarks in some browsers, icons if you save a web page to your home screen on an iOS device, and more. The icons are provided (or not provided) by the sites themselves. 1Password essentially has nothing to do with them. It just passes them along from the websites' servers for display in the list. If the larger "apple-touch-icon" is not provided by a site 1Password can't just pull one out of thin air, so it uses the smaller "favicon" that the site provides. If neither is provided by the site you will see the default Login icon.Flag 0
