Question about built-in browser tab handling

Paco II
edited December 2012 in iOS
As I was using 1Pv4 the other day, I noticed I had about 9 'tabs' open in the built-in browser. 8 of them were for Amazon (holiday shopping). It appears that the browser follows Safari's tab model, where every link, or in this case, every tapping of a URL in a Login, will open a new tab, even to the same URL. As a bit of a 'neat freak', this makes me crazy <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> Would you consider adding an option to auto-close all tabs after a set period of time?

On a related note, because of this, I've gotten into the habit of manually closing tabs before exiting. The flow I would expect is: tap tab button, close tabs, then when last tab is closed end up on empty browser page, then exit. However, as it works now, after closing last tab I am immediately taken to the URL entry screen with keyboard, requiring me to first hit cancel before I can exit the browser. Please reconsider that flow.

EDIT: Almost forgot to add a bug report related to tabs. It appears that 9 tabs is the max. And if you try to manually add another tab with the '+' button, it will crash the app.

I agree. I'd like to see options like in the browser extension on the desktop to open Logins in new tabs or the existing tab. I'm not sure about auto-close since that could be pretty destructive, but I'll mention it to the developers.

I also agree that the address bar should not receive focus when closing the last tab. That's been driving me nuts for a while too, and I filed it internally for the developers to reconsider. I thought I was the only one. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

I can't reproduce this on an iPhone 5 or iPad (3rd Gen). It sounds like a low memory condition. What device are you using? Are you able to reproduce it even after a device restart?

    Thanks, and happy holidays! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />
  • Hi Khad,

Regarding the bug, I can repro every time, even after device reboot. With 9 tabs open, hitting plus button will crash app.

I had the app send the crash report. Hope someone on your end gets it <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

    Reproduced. Thanks!

    We'll get this resolved in an update. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
