hello

i use 1pwd on my iphone5, ipad1 and mbp. with 1pwd 3 all was uptodate via w-lan sync.

but now something changed! 1pwd4! and the way how they sync.

how can i keep 1pwd3 on my ipad1 (which is not supported by 1pwd4) uptodate if i do not want to use cloud sync?

agile announced to support usb sync in 1pwd4. does usb sync also work with 1pd3 on a ipad1 (or older iPhones)?

thanks

claus

Dropbox syncing is automatic, will work across all versions, and is very secure: http://help.agilebits.com/1Password3/cloud_storage_security.html

However, if you do not wish to or cannot use Dropbox for any reason, you can still use Wi-Fi syncing in 1Password 3 for iOS on all your iOS devices. USB syncing will require version 1Password 4 for iOS, so once it is available you can use it for your iPhone 5 running 1Password 4, but 1Password 3 will likely not be receiving any new features.

If you wish to stick with Wi-Fi syncing as long as possible, you can use 1Password 3 on your iPhone 5. You can download it from your "Purchases" in the App Store: http://learn.agilebits.com/1Password4/iOS/ios-faqs.html#i-cant-find-1password-3-for-my-older-ios-devices-how-do-i-download-it

You can read more about Wi-Fi syncing in version 4 here: http://learn.agilebits.com/1Password4/iOS/ios-faqs.html#why-is-wi-fi-syncing-not-available

    And USB syncing here: http://blog.agilebits.com/2013/01/03/direct-syncing-in-1password-4-for-ios/

I hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Well, maybe I did not understand you correct: I have to run a version 3 on my iPhone (or on my Mac?) to sync with my iPad 1st generation (running 1Pwd3).

Does it means: I have to run both 1Pwd3 and 1Pwd4 on my iPhone 5 - 1Pwd3 to sync with my iPad via WLAN, and 1Pwd4 to sync with my Mac via USB.

Arent there many users with the first iPad or older iPhones?

1Password 4 for iOS takes advantage of some powerful new features that are only available in iOS 6. Apple has only made iOS 6 available on the following devices:

iPhone 3GS or later

iPad (2nd gen) or later

iPod touch (4th gen) or later
If you are running an older device you will need to use 1Password 3 for iOS on it.

As I mentioned above, we recommend Dropbox since it is completely automatic, works across all supported platforms, and is a secure way to sync 1Password data.

If you will not or cannot use Dropbox, Wi-Fi sync is available in 1Password 3 for iOS, and if you prefer to use it you can stick with 1Password 3 for iOS on all your devices.

USB sync will require features that are only available in 1Password 4 for iOS. When USB sync is available it will only work with 1Password 4 for iOS.

There is not and has never been a direct sync option that syncs iOS devices directly. A Mac has always been required as a sort of "hub" for all direct syncing, so it is not possible to sync an iPhone to an iPad directly. Just sync them both to your Mac and they will be up to date.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with.

To make it easier for me (or maybe for you, too) to understand:

    Mac 1Pwd4 <-- sync via USB (local, not cloud) --> iPhone5 1Pwd4

Mac 1Pwd4 <-- sync via what? (local, not cloud) --> iPad 1st Gen 1Pwd3 -> LOCAL SYNC BETWEEN 1PWD3 and 1PWD4 IS NOT POSSIBLE (correct?)

So, I have to run 1Pwd3, too, on my Mac:

    Mac 1Pwd3 <-- sync via W-LAN (local, not cloud) --> iPad 1st Gen 1Pwd3

    Correct?

As I mentioned above, direct syncing requires a Mac as a hub. It has never been possible to directly sync iOS devices without a Mac. It is possible to do this with Dropbox (think of it as being the hub in place of a Mac), but not with direct syncing.

1Password 3 for Mac can direct sync with 1Password 3 for iOS via Wi-Fi.

1Password 3 for Mac will be able to direct sync with 1Password 4 for iOS via USB.

I think that might be what you wrote, but please let me know if you still have more questions.

How do I get both 1Pwd's for iOS (in my iPhone 5 and on my iPad1) uptodate? Do I need to run 1Pwd3 and 1Pwd4 on my Mac?

(Please do not mention again, that I can do this via DropBox, I want to use a local sync via WLAN or USB only)).

Or: Will 1Pwd3 support USB sync? Will 1Pwd4 support W-LAN? AFAIK "no" and "no". So: how can I keep both 1Pwd's for iOS uptodate?

1Password 3 for Mac can direct sync with 1Password 3 for iOS via Wi-Fi on your iPad (first generation).

1Password 3 for Mac will be able to direct sync with 1Password 4 for iOS via USB on your iPhone 5.

Note that the common element is 1Password 3 for Mac. It is the hub that syncs the data to both devices.

Sync your iPad to your Mac.

Sync your iPhone to your Mac.

All data is up to date on all three devices.
The order of steps 1 and 2 is irrelevant.

Phuu, I got the right answer now. So, it makes no sense to get 1Pwd4 for Mac because I cant use it to sync with both devices.

I hope Agile will publish an updated 1Pwd3 for Mac with USB-sync soon (when?), because I want to get away from syncing via Dropbox.

    Tanks! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

1Password 4 for Mac hasn't been released yet. I don't believe Wi-Fi syncing will be implemented in it, though, so if you want Wi-Fi syncing with your iPad (1st gen) then you'll need to stick with 1Password 3 for Mac.

I can't say any more about USB syncing than what we've already announced in the aforelinked blog post. Please stay tuned for more. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
