1PW 4 Browser Loads User ID & PW but does not log on

Recently I downloaded 1PW4.0.3 to my iPad3 iOS6. After entering my logins into the vault I tested each one to see if it works. I open 1PW, get into the vault, and access my 'Login' data without any problem. Each has its UserID, PW & URL in its proper place. Each is correctly completed.

Here is my problem, and each login behaves in the same way: when I open the banking (or whatever) website, 1Browser opens the login page, completes the ID & PW entry, but goes no further. I have waited as long as > 1 minute for it to logon, but doesn't. Then when I try to help it along by tapping on 'enter' or 'login' button, nothing happens. It will not open the site.

One URL, when opened from the login list in 1P, will open the website in 1Browser, but not fill in the ID or PW.

I can't seem to determine why it is not working for me. What am I doing wrong, or what is wrong with this system? Thanks.

1Password does not have autosubmit at this time, so you will need to submit the form manually after 1Password fills the information. It sounds like you are having trouble submitting a form manually though.

What is the URL where you are unable to submit the login form?

What is the URL where 1Password is not filling the information?

I'd love to take a look and see if there is something we can improve on our end or if the site is doing something to prevent 1Password from working.

    Thanks!
  • Thanks Khad,

    1) no urls to give for not being able to submit login - for no reason, they all seem to be working now. I didn't change anything.

    2) the url for 1P not filling in the ID and PW is: onlinebanking.tdbank.com

    1. That is good news. I'm glad it is working well. Please let me know if you have more trouble in that regard.

    2. The problem with the TD Bank login page is that it is using frames which 1Password for iOS cannot access. From my understanding, unless Apple changes the UIWebView or TD Bank changes their site there is unfortunately no way to fill it aside from copying and pasting the password manually. I'm sorry I don't have a better answer at this time.

    Thanks for trying, Khad.

On 2): it's interesting that it works fine on my Mac w/1P3.8.2, but not on 1P4 on my iPad. Why would one OS (OS X) get through this 'frame' problem, and the other OS (iOS6) be blocked, if it seems to be TD's setup that's causing this?

However, I want you to know that in the short time I have been using 1P I have the feeling, "Why have I not been using this before?" It is so good, even with the glitches! Many thanks for all you do.

I have one concern though: Now that I will be using 1P for logging on and I will not have to be entering PWs manually anymore (on most sites), I would like to upgrade my PWs for better security. BUT, what if the 1P software 'goes down' or becomes non-functional for even a short time? I will no longer know my PW, and for that period of time not have access to my banking and other websites. Is this a reasonable worry?

Reasonable worry but I've been using 1PW since 2008 on just about every platform and it hasn't happened yet.

If the worst came to the worst you could go to a backup and even use 1Password Anywhere from a web browser on the data files themselves.

Scores of people have bought 1PW on my recommendation and none have experienced a serious issue.
  • Penelope,

    Thank you for your observations.

Five years' satisfactory experience with 1P speaks well for the integrity of the system. I don't have nearly the amount of experience you have, but for the 2 weeks I've been using and learning the program, I find it very impressive. I don't know why I've not heard of it before. Read about it in Macworld.

You're welcome. I agree, it is very good software indeed and the company that makes it provides outstanding support too IMO.

Good question. It is wise to be thinking of these things.

First and foremost, 1Password is an encryption app not a hosted service. Your data and your decryption of it doesn’t require our participation in any way once you have 1Password. Your data is yours. Even if AgileBits were to get abducted by aliens tomorrow, you would still have access to your data since we never store it on our servers.

Dropbox and iCloud are only used for syncing. The data itself is always on your devices and (hopefully) on your backups as well. You are making backups aren't you? <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

If you are syncing with your Mac, you can simply backup your data on the Mac using Time Machine, SuperDuper, Carbon Copy Cloner, or a variety of other backup solutions. It is also wise to have an offsite backup solution, perhaps something CrashPlan, Carbonite, Mozy, or similar. If you backup your entire drive your 1Password data will obviously be included. If you only backup your Home folder your 1Password data will be included as well. These are typical defaults in backup solutions.

A solid backup strategy is part of good computing hygiene. If you lose all of your computers and devices and your house burns down, you can still get access to your offsite backup and restore from there. 1PasswordAnywhere is available in any modern browser via the Dropbox website (presuming you are syncing via Dropbox) and even via any offline local backup (such as Time Machine).

I hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Cheers,
  • Burning the midnight oil I see!

Wow!! Does that help! Fantastic review of available avenues.

I do backup my hard drive, but at the time I posted the question on this subject, I hadn't even given backup a thought. It didn't occur to me till Penelope mentioned it in her post. I don't know why I didn't think of it, because I have backed up regularly with Time Machine and SuperDuper for years. I checked my backups, and of course 1P was in there. I'm still in the process of deciding which off site (iCloud? dropbox?) I'm going to use. Still working on it.

Once again, many thanks for your help.

    I do tend to be a night owl. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

It sounds like you are on top of things. Time Machine and SuperDuper are great options! Please do not that iCloud and Dropbox are sync services not really backup services. The difference is subtle but important. For example, if you delete your data file from one device the deletion will propagate to the server and your other devices. There are some safeguards (i.e. your local backups, Dropbox revision history, etc.), but I'd recommend a "true" online/offsite backup solution such as CrashPlan, Carbonite, Mozy, or similar.

    I hope that helps. Enjoy your weekend! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

    hippydoc,

Just in case you don't know this, 1PW on your Mac backs up your data file to, amongst other things, mitigate the risk khad mentions about deletions propagating via cloud services. This means that your other backup systems will be making copies of these keychain backup files too.

IMO one can never have enough backup. Personally I use Time Machine, CrashPlan and SuperDuper to make a clone of my hard drive that I store off site.

My only difference from Penelope is I use Carbon Copy Cloner.

I entirely agree you can never have enough backups. But at a minimum use the rule of 3.

3 Diverse locations via a variety of methods.
  • Thank u, T-Dog & Penelope. Khad clarified my misunderstanding of Dropbox and iCloud. Now I hv Dropbox syncing very nicely. still hv issues w/icloud. Now I'm looking at crashplan and carbonite. Many thx to all of u.

It is my pleasure to help. I'm not sure if I misunderstood your statement about having issues with iCloud, but please let us know if you are having trouble with 1Password's iCloud syncing. We'd be happy to help.
