1password download link blocked by bitdefender and chrome extension not installing

Hi,

I was trying to download 1Password today from the official site but the link was blocked by Bitdefender. I ignored this but then when trying to install the chrome extension I also saw Chrome didn't allow extensions from the 1Password site to be installed. I also couldn't find it listed anymore in the Chrome extension library. Will this be resolved soon and have I possibly been exposed to malware? I also post this here because customer service seems busy.

Comments

  • I already figured out how I could force the installation on Chrome.

Is it normal that I cannot find the 1password extension in the chrome store?

I'm also still wondering about the bitdefender block. Was there any exposure to malware when you chose to ignore this warning?

Welcome to the forums, Frederik! Thanks for taking the time to contact us. As explained on the Chrome extension download page:
Google recently began requiring extensions in Chrome to be installed through the Chrome Web Store. We're working on making the 1Password extension available on the Chrome Web Store, but until then you can still easily install the 1Password extension in this manner.
Instructions with step by step screenshots are presented after that text on the download page (which you can access via 1Password's preferences on the Browsers tab; just click the "install" button for the 1Password extension).

It does seem strange that BitDefender is blocking anything. Can you post more details about that including a screenshot of the error you are seeing? I'd love to take a look.

This is what I get when I try to download from the default link. The alternative link was initially also blocked but now seems to work again.

You should report the link as a false positive to BitDefender. We will do the same, but it helps when it is coming from their actual customers who pay them rather than another developer who is apparently on their block list (for no good reason). <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

    Thanks for reporting this.

Here is some information from BitDefender:

    http://www.bitdefend...ations-491.html

Although it appears that it may be blocking it based on URL rather than file contents if you got the message before you even downloaded the file. Is there some kind of "malware" or "Internet" protection in BitDefender? That would be my guess as to where BitDefender has gone wrong.
