Dropbox & 1P 4 - Existing user, new iPad [resolved]

Hello all,

I've been using 1Password for a while now using Dropbox syncing. I've only used version 3 as I haven't upgraded my old iPad to IOS 6.

I purchased a new iPad, installed Dropbox and the new 1Password 4. 1Password will quit every time I try to set up syncing. Here's my steps:

- Start 1Password

- Select "I've used 1Password before"

- Select "Sync using Dropbox"

- Dropbox is launched, and a dialog box displays with "1Password wants access to your Dropbox"; I tap "Allow"

- 1Password is brought forward and it displays something about "Checking Dropbox"

- 1Password quits after 3 or 4 seconds.

I can't do the steps listed in the pinned Troubleshooting topic as step 2 is not available due to me not finishing the initial setup.

Any help would be appreciated.

  • Just curious do you get the red circle with exclamation point on the syncing tab? Just today my Dropbox syncing with 1Password fails on both my iPhone and iPad. iCloud syncing works without issue on both. I'm guessing there's a problem with the new Dropbox version.

I'm having the same issue as bigdaddy.

I purchased a new iPad today, installed the latest version of 1Password 4, tried to sync using exisiting dropbox sync'd keychain (from 1Password on Mac OS X and other iOS devices) and 1Password 4 on the iPad crashes during 'Checking Dropbox'.

pappjo.. as we are trying to set up new instances of 1Password, we do not have access to a syncing tab to view this. The app crashes whilst going through a modal 'Welcome / first time setup' style popup.

EDIT: After posting this, I thought I'd try set it up again... this time it worked!

Welcome to the forums, snwau and bigdaddy!

I'm sorry that you are having some trouble, bigdaddy, but I'm glad things worked themselves out for you, snwau.

pappjo, I replied to you in the other thread you started.

bigdaddy, I apologize for any confusion. The steps in the pinned topic only applied to 1Password 3. I unpinned the topic to avoid any future confusion. Please follow the steps here to resolve your issue:

    http://learn.agilebits.com/1Password4/iOS/Sync/Dropbox/stuck-dropbox.html

Let mek now if you are still having trouble after carefully following the steps in the link.
  • Hello Khad,

    I did #2 in http://learn.agilebits.com/1Password4/iOS/Sync/Dropbox/stuck-dropbox.html

    Now I get an error:

"No 1Password data found in Dropbox. Please login to your Dropbox account and verify that 1Password.agilekeychain exists"

If I look at .ws.agile.1Password.settings, it has one line: "1Password.agilekeychain". I would have thought it would be "1Password/1Password.agilekeychain"

    So still stuck.

Don't skip the last part of step 2:

If you have 1Password installed on your computers, make sure to inform it about the new location:

Macs: Double-click on that 1Password.agilekeychain file and 1Password will automatically know where it is
Doing that should update the pointer file (.ws.agile.1Password.settings) with the correct location.

If you don't have 1Password installed on your Mac, I'm not sure where the pointer file came, from but simply removing it in this specific instance should get things working.
  • Nope, I didn't skip anything.

I just went ahead and deleted that file. Now I can access my passwords from the new iPad.

It also seems that I can still access my passwords on the older iPad running 1Password 3. Also able to access passwords on the Mac.

That begs the question of what was the purpose of that file?

Well it looks like I'm up and running either way.

    Thanks for your time

Great news! Thanks for letting me know that everything is working well. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

The pointer file (.ws.agile.1Password.settings) tells the mobile apps where to find your data file if you have it in a location other than the default.
