Trouble with a specific website
You need to save a new Login item if you want 1Password to "learn" all the form fields on the page...

If it were me, I'd just use my existing Logins and save new ones as needed when I cam across them. No sense in spending a lot of time "fixing" something that works fine. As long as you have the existing data, you can use it to create a new Login item at any point in the future. There is no hurry. If you just do one or two as you come across them the effective effort in the transition approaches zero.
OK, now I'm looking for a "Save New Login" command, assuming it would have been in the browser extension... Not that I see... There's always the File->New->Login in the app... but that seems to be only a manually created info...

Actually, I came to the Forum looking for a way to modify a Saved Login so that it would actually work at a site. It looks like a simple html form. But 1PW saves the first field as "Username" and "Password on the normally visible login template. The Field names in the list ... are now erased! I deleted the old login in an attempt to create a new one by manually signing in, again. Now 1PW is not even asking if I want to Save the login! :headbash: Back in a minute...

  • I'm back...(physically, not sure about mentally!). I think the problem may be that this site doesn't actually use/want a "password" as such. Could that be the reason that 1PW didn't detect the need to offer a "Save" function? It's possible that I created a new "login" file for this site manually, a couple of years ago. And that may be the reason the template labels made no sense, to me, anyway.

The problem is that when I've used the login that I have now deleted, it filled the first two fields with the info that I has stored in the "Username" field. That doesn't/didn't work, of course, because the second field actually wants my last name. But even if I edited the now deleted login I could not get the form/site to use the two different fields in the two different form fields.

So, I am wondering if I can edit the names of the two fields, in the template, by using the actual names supplied in the html form? I tried doing that without any real success, probably because how 1PW determines which field is which is a little more sophisticated than simply parsing the html label info in a form.

I've probably confused everyone for the time being. I probably should start a new thread. Right now, I'm going back to 1PW and create another manual Login and see what I can do to edit/force the site to use the info I want it to... so, "I'll be Bahk!"

1Password will automatically prompt you to save a Login item if you don't already have a Login saved with the same password for the same domain. If you want to save a Login manually, open the site's login page in your browser and then:

    1. Enter your credentials, but DO NOT submit the form.

    2. Click the 1Password button in your browser's toolbar, and select the "+" button in the upper right hand corner.

    3. Change the title and make any notes (if desired).

    4. Click the Save button in the upper right hand corner.

Manually saving a new Login can be useful for logins that are either problematic to begin with or were once working but have since stopped. Saving a new Login item allows 1Password to refresh everything it "knows" about the page. Login pages often change as websites are updated and this can be a necessary but very useful tip. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

If you are still having trouble, please try disabling autosubmit for that Login and let me know if that resolves the issue. Since I don't have an account there, I was not able to verify autosubmit for the form.

If you're still having trouble, please let me know the URL so I can take a look.

    Thanks!
  • Worked like a charm, almost. There are three fields for Month, Day and Year of birth; all html select elements. I filled out those fields before using 1Password to save the login, but those fields, or my data input was not 'seen' or saved. Not a big thing, I'm not sure I have another site that uses select elements when logging in or even for filling out a form that I've saved in 1Password. So, the first time I tried filling the form with the newly saved 'login,' it failed since the date data wasn't inserted. Second time I filled in the date fields and then had 1PW fill in the ID and Name fields. And it worked!

The filed names/labels 1PW saw were 'donor-id' and 'last_name' It still shows a "password" Field Name in the Fields list but with no data, of course. Here's what 1PW 'saw' and saved:

Note that I didn't even have to disable Autosubmit!

Thanks for the explanation and help!

It is my pleasure to help. "Filling" drop-drown menus and other non-"input" elements is on our list, but I don't have a time frame.

Let me know if there is anything else I can help with in the meantime. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
