icon disappeared in Safari

I've tried everything on the website and in the original thread. The icon is not available in customize menu option. When I ran the diagnostics from 1password, the only thing I saw was that it said my version (build) of Safari was not updated and was incompatible. Software update on my apple says I'm up to date on everything and I'm running Safari 5.0.1. Re-downloaded my key for 1password3 to make sure it was correct and it says it is. I'm almost ready to bag it after using it for a year. Are their any other solutions out there. Its just clunky to have to open my secure lists every time and copy and past the info into my safari window for anything that I have saved a password for. thats they only way I can seem to get to it.

any help would be appreciated.

    Welcome to the forums

Do you have any 3 rd party plugins running, evernote is one that has caused problems. (ie the button not showing up)

Additionally you may need to try a clean install of 1p3 make sure if you do this you do it manually some 3rd party un removers can remove the application support folder which is the default location for your keychain.

To do this drag the current app to the trash

Download a fresh copy

Quit safari

Install give permissions if asked by installer
button should be there.

Hi studioammons, welcome to the forums.

Can you tell us what version of 1Password you are running? It sounds to me that you're still running 1Password 2. Entering 1Password 3 license into 1Password 2 will work fine and it doesn't prompt you about updates to 1Password 3.

Open 1Password, go to the 1Password Menu and select "About 1Password".

I have the same problem since I installed Safari 5.0.1 (5533.17.8 ) a few days ago. I tried everything that the website suggests to make the 1P button reappear in Safari, but nothing works. Not even the suggestion you give here. I am running 1Password Version 3.3.0 (build 30700) under OS X 10.5.8 Leopard, on a Mac Pro G5 (not Intel). What can I try next?

    Hi Bert

After seeing your request for some reason a tickler in the back of my head is ringing when I hear you are running 10.5.8, I think a lot of the staff are running SL. But DBrown AFAIK is still running 10.5.8 so Ill ask him to chime in. I an not sure why I think this is an os issue, it just set off my spidy sense for some reason. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Pinged David BTW, and also have you tried customizing the browser to see if the button is just hiding ?

I'm running Safari 5.0.1 (5533.17.8 ) in Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Build 9L30), and the 1P button is in its proper location in the Safari toolbar.

Upgrading Safari didn't require replacing it, either, though I've heard of customers having that experience.

Please make sure you're using 1Password 3.x, as Mike requests.

Next, please try completely quitting (Command+Q) Safari, displaying the Browsers tab of 1Password preferences, disabling all extensions, re-enabling them (making sure Safari is included), and restarting Safari.

After that, please try Control+clicking the Safari toolbar, choosing Customize Toolbar, and dragging the 1P button back onto the Safari toolbar.

If you don't see the 1P button anywhere in the Customize Toolbar window, please let us know; that might help us pin down the cause of the problem.

    Thanks!

Oh yes, 1P is not present in the browser bar customization drop sheet.

The 1P button did apear normally in Safari 5.0 under OS X 10.5.8

It disappeared after I installed Safari 5.0.1 last week.

The things you suggested above I had already tried last week. However, I now found the solution to the problem. I had SAFT running as InputManager for Safari. It was the only possible cause left, so I quit Safari and removed SAFT from /Library/InputManagers and when I restarted Safari: bingo, there was the 1P button again. Then I quit Safari again, put the SAFT InputManager back in /Library/InputManagers, restarted Safari and no problem, the 1P button is still there. Conclusion: if you want to use SAFT, then in the configuration that I use it must be installed AFTER 1Password.

Thanks for thinking with me about the problem. It helped me focus.

I have the same problem: yesterday the 1P icon was there and this morning it is not... No Safari extensions are showing up in Safari preferences. I have tried the suggested solutions including downloading a fresh copy of 1Password without success.

    Safari 5.0.1 (5533.17.8)

    1Password 3.3.0 (30700)

I have a suggestion for one more thing to try. Look at what is there in /Library/InputManagers (the system library, not your personal library in /Users/yourname/Library). At least there should be a folder called 1PasswdIM. Now do the following:

    1. Quit Safari

    2. Remove everything you see in /Library/InputManagers don't throw it away, just place it on the desktop or so.

    3. Start Safari (Of course now there is no 1P button)

    4. Quit Safari

    5. Now install a fresh copy of 1Password again, using the 1Password installer

    6. Check that 1PasswdIM has reappeared in /Library/InputManagers

    7. Start Safari.

If you are lucky, now the 1P button is there.

If it is not, too bad, this did not work.

In any case, to complete the procedure do the following:

    8. Throw away the old 1PasswdIM that you had removed from /Library/InputManagers

If 1PasswdIM was the only thing that was there in /Library/InputManagers then you are done.

    If there was more then:

    9. Quit Safari.

    10. Put back all the other stuff that you had removed from /Library/InputManagers (if there was any)

    11. Start Safari.

In case the 1P button was there after step 7, check if the 1P button is still there. If so, then you are done.

If the 1P button has disappeared again, then one of your other input managers is in conflict with 1Password.

In that case, repeat steps 1-7. (Be sure not to skip steps 3 and 4. They are essential, and not just for checking.).

If the button had reappeared the first time you did this, I expect it to reappear again.

Now add the other input manangers one by one in the following way:

    12. Quit Safari

    13. Take only one of the other input managers that you had removed and put it back into /Library/InputManagers

    14. Start Safari

    15. See if if the 1P button is still there now. If it is, repeat steps 12-15 for the next input manager you had removed.

If the 1P button has disappeared again, then the last input manager you brought back in /Library/InputManagers is the culprit. It is incompatible with 1Password.

You might want to check if there is a new version available for this input manager. Perhaps that solves the problem. If not, too bad, you have to choose between 1Password and this conflicting input manager. You cannot use both.

    I hope this helps.

Problem fixed, or should I say that the icon is back but I don't have the slightest idea why?

I shut-down the iMac Thursday evening. After starting it up Friday AM the icon is back. I had tried all the FAQ and posted suggestions without success. When I run into a computer anomaly I often try a restart because it often does the trick. But I don't recall thinking of it this time nor do I remember any of the tips mentioning a restart. K.I.S.S. once again!

I will keep this link around just in case things go awry in the future.
