How To: Create a new Google Chrome profile
For some rare problems involving a corrupt Google Chrome profile, it may be necessary to start with a fresh profile.
Before you proceed, we recommend backing up your Google Chrome bookmarks.
Alternatively, you can set up syncing in Chrome which will backup not only your bookmarks but also your preferences and more! You can set it up in Chrome's preferences in the "Personal Stuff" section. That will allow you to easily restore your Chrome data and preferences in the new profile.
Setting aside your existing profile
- Quit Google Chrome completely.
- In Finder, select Go > Go to Folder… from the menu bar.
Copy and paste this path into the input box and then press Return:
~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome
Drag the "Default" folder you see there to the Desktop. This is your Chrome data including bookmarks. You should be able to restore it by setting up syncing in the new profile, but it is better to hang on to your old profile data until you have verified that.
Installing the 1Password extension
Now, open Google Chrome, and then install a "fresh" copy the 1Password Chrome extension.
Please test the 1Password extension to confirm that it is working well now. Restart Chrome a couple times. Kick Chrome's tires a bit — so to speak.
Once you have verified that everything is working well, you may optionally import your bookmarks or set up syncing again to restore your other Chrome data and preferences.
