My browser extension no longer sees the 1Password application as installed
For some people, after installing the latest version of the browser extension, clicking on the extension shows a dialog that says the 1Password application needs to be installed.
If this is happening, try these solutions to resolve the issue:
Step 1: Updates
First please quit any open browsers, then update 1Password for Mac to the current version, either 3.8.20 for purchases from us directly, or 3.9.6 from the Mac App Store.
Version 3.8:
Update by launching the 1Password application, then selecting 1Password > Check for Updates…
As we made an important change in our 3.8.19 update in order to become Mountain Lion compatible, you may need to run the update process twice in order to fully update. Please verify your version number is 3.8.20 to be sure you've made it to the latest.
Version 3.9:
Update by launching the Mac App Store, and clicking on the Updates tab. When it finishes loading your updates will be listed there.
If that doesn't do it, make sure you're on the latest version of your web browser:
Safari: As of August 24, 2012, the current version is 6.0. Go to the Apple Menu and select Software Update.
Firefox: As of August 28, 2012, the current version is 15.0. Go to Firefox > About Firefox and click the "Check for Updates" button
Chrome: As of August 24, 2012, the current version is 21. Go to Chrome > About Chrome and if there is an update available, it will be indicated in the about screen. (VirusBarrier Users: Chrome will be allowed to check, but not actually update. You'll need to disable VirusBarrier or go to http://google.com/chrome and download the update manually.)
If your extension still doesn't work, your next option is to completely uninstall and reinstall your browser extensions. Simply dragging the 1Password button out of your browser's toolbar does not actually uninstall the extension (this goes for any extension you use, not just ours). To truly uninstall the 1Password extension, follow these steps:
Safari
In Safari, select Safari > Preferences from the menu bar. On the Extensions pane, click on 1Password in the list of extensions then the "Uninstall" button.
Firefox
To completely uninstall the extension and refresh the data in the extension, follow this guide.
Chrome
In Chrome, select Window > Extensions from the menu bar. Click the "Remove" button next to the 1Password extension.
Step 2: Reinstall your extension(s)
- Open 1Password and unlock it with your Master Password.
- Select 1Password > Install Browser Extensions from the menu bar.
- Reinstall extensions for any browser(s) you use and they should now recognize your 1Password application.
