How To: Back up your 1Password data on the iOS devices before upgrading your iOS

We always recommend that you backup your 1Password data at any chance you can get. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

Before upgrading your iOS version, please take every precaution to ensure you have a current backup of your data.

If you’re syncing with 1Password for Mac or Windows, 1Password should already be handling that for you as long as the Backups feature was not turned off. We’d recommend that you check again just to be sure. Please read the sections below to configure your backups.

If you don’t have either of those apps, 1Password for iOS has it own Backup & Restore feature that you can use.

1Password for Mac

  • To Back up now: Open 1Password and go to the File Menu > Backup Data File
  • To Configure the Backups: Open 1Password and go to the 1Password Menu > Preferences > Backups.
  • Backups in 1Password 3.9: 1Password from the Mac App Store already backs up your data automatically and retain the most recent 30 backups at any given time

1Password for Windows

  • To Back up now: Open 1Password, unlock and go to the Backup menu > Back Up 1Password Data
  • To Configure the Backups: Open 1Password, unlock, press the Preferences button and go to the Backup section
