How do I sync my 1Password data on another Mac?
NOTE: If you already have 1Password set up and sycning on another machine, this article will help you add another Mac to your existing setup. If you do not have 1Password syncing via Dropbox yet, follow the instructions for Mac or Windows first, then come back here to add another Mac.
Dropbox
To sync 1Password data across devices, the recommended syncing solution is Dropbox. This article assumes a data file is already setup and syncing. New users will need to setup a new data file first, then move that data file to Dropbox.
Once the data file has been moved to Dropbox, it will need to finish syncing completely on Dropbox. To verify this is done, check the Dropbox icon in the menu bar. It will look like the below image:
When Dropbox indicates syncing is complete, the file is now available to other devices.
Setting up additional Macs to use Dropbox
Once a data file is fully synced to Dropbox, here's how to set up additional Macs to sync to Dropbox:
- Confirm 1Password is installed, but don't launch it.
- Locate the file on Dropbox. It should be in ~/Dropbox/1Password/ and will be called 1Password.agilekeychain.
- Double click the 1Password.agilekeychain file
This will open the file in 1Password and prompt you for your master password.
This will be the same as the master password on the Mac where you originally set up 1Password. Enter that and unlock your data file. You're all set!
