Yojimbo Importer

edited August 2010 in Mac
Hello Everyone,

I decided to move on from Yojimbo to 1Password but was daunted by the task of manually trying to get my secure stuff out of Yojimbo and into 1Password. I've read numerous hints about how to do it but it seems like there is enough interest to provide an easy solution for everyone. So I created Y21P...it's an Automator application that will take your stuff from a Yojimbo export and import it into 1Password. It supports login, software and note items. It will not import PDFs, bookmarks, images or web archives. Yojimbo also doesn't export tags so that's not supported either.

It worked for 96% of my items so I hope you find it as useful as I did. Find it attached to this post and it's free to use, distribute and modify. Also, it's only been tested on Mac OS X 10.6.4.

Rob Yoder from Agile Customer Care helped me test it and provided feedback. Thanks Rob!

Thanks so much for doing this, it was the "deal-breaker" in getting me to buy 1password. Heads up to folks using this. First, you will get some nasty error window from 1pass, just ignore it and continue. Second, do all you passwords, serial numbers, and notes separately and it will work (mixing them at first it didn't). Hey IPBoard, can you give MikeT free updates for life or something?

I'm so glad to hear that this worked for you, Crow. That's great! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

We do love Mike. But I think we really owe our thanks to cpanderson for putting this together (with the help of Rob). Amazing job, guys!

Thank you VERY much for the Automator application. It certainly did the trick. Much appreciated!

*EXACTLY* What I was hoping to find! Many, many thanks for saving me the time of writing and debugging something like this. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

    Great job!!

Any plans to build a Yojimbo import function directly into 1PW anytime soon?

Thanks for asking about this, ckeck!

At this time we are focusing the importers on other password managers rather than more generic database applications. There has not been a large demand for Yojimbo import functionality so far. I don't think we have seen any requests for this via email, so what you see in this thread is the totality of folks we are aware of who are looking to import from Yojimbo (about half a dozen users in the past year or so). However, we never say "never." <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Are you having trouble with the importer that cpanderson provided above?

    Please let me know.

    Thanks!
