Ipassword for Iphone and OS X 10.4.11

I have the Ipassword (version 3.1.1) App on my 3gs Iphone . I've had it for a week and love it.

Now I need to back it up to my Powerbook G4 running OSX 10.4.11, how hard can that be I said.

Well after reading some discussions here I'm kind of confused and ready to look elsewhere for a "simple back up solution.

I realize I need to purchase the IPassword for my powerbook G4, but not really sure it will all go smooth.

My question I guess is will it work on OSX 10.4.11 and what are the steps.

Thanks

Hi leicavic, welcome to the forums!

Do you want to sync or just back up the data onto the Powerbook?

If you just want to back up 1Password data, you can use the built-in mechanism in 1Password touch:

    http://help.agile.ws...uch/backup.html

You can use 1Password 2 on 10.4.11 to sync with the iPhone. If you buy a license right now, it's compatible with both 1Password 2 and 3. You will not be able to use the Dropbox sync feature as 1Password 3 is required for it and 1Password 2 isn't compatible with Safari 5 and latest betas of Firefox 4. We phased out the development for 1Password 2 several months ago and as such there won't be any updates made to support Safari 5/Firefox 4 for 1Password 2. There are workarounds to get Safari 5 to work with 1Password 2.

If you decide to get 1Password 2/3 to sync with your iPhone, here's the guide to help you get started:

    http://help.agile.ws..._to_iphone.html

I don't know if you know this, but Apple have stopped Tiger support completely, which means they're no longer issuing any new security patches. I'm sure, as a 1Password user, you take your security seriously, and as such I just thought I should mention this. We like to recommend to our customers, when we see that they're using Tiger, that if possible they upgrade to at least Leopard at their earliest convenience.

I hope that helps. Please let me know.

    Thanks,

Thanks Mike , I followed the back up link and was able to back up my data.

It left this (.1ptbackup) file on my desktop which I assume has all my data. Is this true ?

Now when I double click it needs an application to open it, but I assume this file might be used only to restore the data on my iphone when needed ? I have a lot of data in 1password and would hate to loose it

You mentioned Apple no longer supports TIGER, which tells me what I've been thinking for a while, I need a newer computer with the leopard OSX, so I can install 1Password for MAc.

Thanks again, love the App, good job.

    Hi Vic,

The .1ptbackup file is the backup file that holds all of your data and it can only be restored by 1Password on your iPhone. There's no application that can open this file for you on the Mac. Please keep this backup file safe somewhere and make backups of that backup file as well. Be sure to backup your 1Password data as often as you can, so that it'll have all the most recent changes you made to 1Password on the iPhone.

You can install Leopard on your current Powerbook, Leopard is compatible with Powerbook G4. Although, it is a massive change for you if you decide to get the new i5 MBP with Snow Leopard.

So, if I use 1P on a Mac with Snow Leopard (1P version 3), a PC with XP (1P beta), a couple Macs with Tiger (1P version 2), and on my iPhone (the latest 1P Touch on iOS4), will I be able use the Sync with Dropbox feature on the iPhone since at least one of my computers is running version 3 on it? Or do all my computers need to be version 3 for it to work?

Dropbox syncing works across all desktop versions of 1Password, as you're literally just storing your data file in a folder that is then synced with Dropbox, and accessed by all your other Dropbox linked computers.

For the iPhone to use Dropbox syncing you need to have set the process up from either a Mac running 1Pasword 3 or a PC running 1Password for Windows, as there is a settings file that needs to be created to tell the iPhone version where to look in Dropbox for your data file.

You can read more about setting up Dropbox syncing across all 1Password platforms here:

    http://help.agile.ws/1Password3/cloud_syncing_with_dropbox.html

    Hope that makes sense,
  • Thanks stu! I got it working now.
