Dropbox and automatic downloads

Hi NovaScotian,

This post is particularly for you (as well as any others) in the old forum you submitted a topic about having DB do downloads so they are at home when you get there etc.

I thought I would take a moment to tell you about simplenote and MobileDL. MD reads from your simplenote files and if it detects a url in a certain file it downloads it. I have been playing with it for a couple of weeks now and it works really well. I also use NotationalVelocity as my desktop client for the simplenote access. Simplenote also has there own iOS app.

I cant remember for sure if the article you posted used these things but thought I would take the time to say this is what I am using. Currently when I notice a new update to Dropbox's beta, I add it to the special simplenote note and its waiting on my imac when I get home, I don't have to wast time searching for downloads and all.

Thing needed

Simplenote http://simplenoteapp.com/ (Create notes from the iphone also 1/2 of the backbone of the whole process)

NotationalVelocity http://notational.net/ (A big plus for me and create notes from the mac)

MobileDL http://scottjacksonx...b.com/MobileDL/ (it will do the downloading)

Dropbox (of course) http://dropbox.com (the other 1/2 of the backbone)

NotationalVelocity http://notational.net/ (the reason I mention them is you can store the database on dropbox itself. A big plus for me and create notes from the mac)

I think the board killed some of the link. Should be http://scottjacksonx.github.com/MobileDL/

    Thanks thightower!

My use of dropbox is mainly just because I can it is really not needed for the process. ** Unless you have MobileDL to place the downloaded file inside Dropbox that way you can cover multiple macs and only have 1 copy of MobileDL running **

I am not suggeting you use it just mentioning my setup. I have not had any errors with db and notational. I also have not had any problems with the data replication issue the faq mentions.

Notational is mainly so you can create notes on the mac when your iphone is not practicle etc. If you dont like living on the experimental side leave off the dropbox sync portion of notational's database. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Very cool. I'll have to play with this. Reminds me a bit of using Transmission's remote interface to kickstart BitTorrent downloads when I am out of the house. Thanks, Tommy.
