Lost my copy of iPassword Pro

<div class="IPBDescription">Lost App after iphone 4 update</div>I just updated my iPhone from 3.2 to 4.X. I opted to not backup my phone (on a newly installed windows7 system) and updated. Naturally I have lost everything and have to start from scratch. When I went to 1Password Pro it dosn't show that I had installed it previously and wants to charge me to download it. I originally downloaded it when it was free several months ago. Is there anyway to re-install this app without having to purchase it now?

If you have previously purchased a copy itunes should recognize this and offer to let you download it for free. I think but not 100% sure this applies to apps that were free at one point.

It should give you a pop up saying this update is free because you previously purchased the app or something similar. As a matter or personal choice I always suggest someone to do this with a really small priced app that way they can see the process. Its just easier on the mind to do it on a small priced one vs a larger priced one.

As long as it is the *SAME* application, iTunes will let you re-download for free even it is now a paid application.

And if the app's downloaded using the same account it's authorized for.

There doesn't seem any way to switch my free-now-paid (and paid, period) apps from an older account they're authorized with to my newer, favored account. I could do that switch with originally and still free/available) apps simply by downloading them again with the favored account.

So, without repurchase, the 1P iPod/iPad that's auth'd with my old account is destined to remain that way in order to freely update it.
  • I'm afraid my old version was v2.3 and now the version is v3.5.2. I don't dare click on the buy now button. Any ideas?

You should be fine look at my screen shot above I received that pop up because I had 3.5.1 in itunes. The version in my phone was the previous beta Agile has never charged for an update. True they have changed the apps price at times but they specificaly outlined this when they started seling it to begin with.

Either way if you want to use it again you are either gonna have to click buy And be plesantly surprised when itunes tells you its free of charge. Or click buy and it charges you again. Which I honestly believe will not happen. Since Apple manages the itunes store they are the ones ultimatly in charge. All agile does is say hey we have an app can I sell it in your store.
  • Thigh, you really are making my password finger sweaty. So even tho the app has a price, your saying click on it anyway and maybe, just maybe after the initial price scare there might be a popup saying its free? I have also written to the iTunes folks asking them for their opinion but haven't heard back. I will post and update when I hear back from them.
  • Thought I would click on the "buy" button and I didn't get the same pop-up as Thigh, mine said "Are you sure you want to buy and download 1Password Pro? Your credit card will be charged for this purchase ..." I don't dare go further unless that's what Thigh did before he got the Free popup message.

I have just received an email from the Agile Customer Care department! Their response was less than a day considering I emailed them on Sunday! That's AWESOME! Anyway, Stu, our rep, goes on to say ...

"I'm really sorry for the trouble here, unfortunately the iTunes Store doesn't make it very clear that once you've purchased an application that all updates are free of charge and that you can click the 'buy app' button again to download the app again for no charge, you'll be prompted as such by iTunes."

So, I went thru the motions to purchase the app and I gotta say there were some sweaty palms. I thought for sure I was gonna be purchasing the app (and it is an excellent app) as only at the very end did an iTunes message pop up stating exactly what the Thighman said. It downloaded for free as an eligible update. Thanks to all that replied so quickly for the help! Great work and I hope this helps anyone else in the same boat! Ken <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

That's great news, glad myself and the rest of the great team here on the forums could help. I really do hope Apple improve this process at some point, they could either change this 'Buy App' button to a 'Download' button or add a 'My Purchased Apps' section within the store that would list everything you've ever bought, after all they know this already no?

If there's anything more we can do for you, please feel free to post here or drop us a line to the support team and we'll be more than happy to help.
