"dropdown" window logins

I just signed up for an account at tripit.com, and their login requires a click on a "login" button which causes a "dropdown" panel to appear (it's not really a "popup" in that it isn't a new window....it feels/looks like an Ajax implementation). Anyway, 1P can fill in the login once I click on the "login" button, but it would be nice to use 1P as one does for "normal" logins, which is to select the entry in 1P and allow 1P to take the browser there and to fill in the login. Is this possible?

  • I was having this problem too and solved it similarly to camner by manually opening the AJAXy window by clicking on the 'Sign In' button, then asking 1P to fill-in.

Recently however, I've found that now 1P will no longer fill the login fields in the AJAXy window and instead fills in the fields underneath-- those are the fields for registering for a new account. It's kind of annoying how TripIt has implemented this. I've searched for a direct link to a login page but it seems you *must* click the 'Sign In' button first to get the dropdown/AJAXy window to appear. This essentially makes 1P unusable for TripIt.

    Anybody have suggestions?

    Welcome to the forums, vinjah.

I'm sorry that you're having this problem. Please try saving the login manually like this:

    1. Enter your username and password, but DO NOT submit the form.

    2. Click the 1Password button in your browser's toolbar, and choose Save Login.

    3. Set the Action field to Create New Login (or to Replace <login-name>, to update an existing Login item).

    4. Click the Save button.

Using the above technique I was able to save and fill a sample login in Safari at:

    http://www.tripit.com/

Manually saving a login can be useful for logins that are either problematic to begin with or were once working but have since stopped. Doing this allows 1Password to refresh everything it "knows" about the page. Login pages often change as websites are updated and this can be a necessary but very useful tip.

The good news is that you can either (1) click the button to reveal the login form and then have 1Password fill the form, or (2) simply press ⌘\ on your keyboard to have 1Password fill and submit the sign up form with your existing credentials which will will log you in just fine. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />

I hope that helps. Please let me know.

    Thanks!
  • I tried your steps for the drop down box sign in at www.holidayinn.com but it didn't work. Any other suggestions?

    Thanks!

Please take a look at our "Website Login Issues" guide. Note especially that editing the login to change the Submit value from "If Autosubmit is ON" to "Never" works on a lot of sites which modify the form before submitting it or are looking for a literal key press or mouse click. This will give you the chance to actually give them what they are looking for by submitting the form yourself rather than allowing 1Password to do it on your behalf.

I hope that helps. Please let me know.

    Thanks!
  • Your work-around is necessary on some (ie: crackle.com) but others have loaded just fine in the normal set up. Strange.

    Thank you for your help!
  • Thanks for the update, JPZ! I am glad to hear it is working for you.

There can be subtle differences under the hood on websites that make cosmetically similar forms work a bit differently. I wish there was a good one-size-fits-all solution, but the web is what it is!
