Doesn't switch back to Safari?

<div class="IPBDescription">Is this a bug or expected?</div>Okay, it used to be that when I used the Safari bookmarklet I'd be taken to 1P, where I could copy a password and be immediately returned to Safari. Has this functionality been removed?

Lately I have been observing this behavior as well. I can't pinpoint exactly when it stopped working, but I have a creepy suspicion it was somewhere around the 3.5.1 update.

Yes it was changed due to multitasking support being added to the iphone. Personall i would like it back like it was but thats me not liking change. Once you get use to the new method it works pretty good <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Oh also since the team is adding back support for early ios versions maybe they will change this back as well or better give us an option to choose which one we want to use.

That sounds pretty nice, should it happen. For all the users out there, me included, still rocking the older hardware, multitasking is still a thing of the future. Worked so well to just tap the bookmarklet och quickly jump into 1Password, copy, jump back into Safari and continue where it left off.

Let me get this straight: because multi-tasking is available in iOS4 (for some devices), a feature was taken out -- affecting not only my iPod touch 2G (which doesn't support multi-tasking) and iPad (which doesn't yet run iOS4), but also all iPhones? By that I mean that iPhone users must now manually switch back to Safari, instead of that being automatic. Doesn't sound like the real reason, but if it is it's a step backward.

BTW, what I'd like to see is a bookmarklet (just append a '&in_1p' parameter to the existing one) that would open the selected page in 1P's browser. That would give us an even easier option.

This feature was completely rewritten when we added support for iOS 4.

It will be difficult to support two parallel implementations of this feature, the code is already a huge mess because of iOS 3.1 support.

My point, Roustem, is that you simply removed this feature for all versions of iOS. Two parallel implementations? This feature no longer exists even for devices that can multi-task and, as a result, makes 1P less useful for all devices.

This is very frustrating to me.

A competing product such as LastPass is able to do this very well. However I cannot stand the LastPass Mac version and much prefer 1Password. I want to use your product for my iPhone but I want to use Safari without the hassle of cutting and pasting.

This used to work with the bookmarklet and it stayed in Safari. If it still works and I am just not finding the link please can someone send it to me.

    Thanks

Thank you, random77, for reminding me this topic has not been sufficiently addressed. Roustem, I'm afraid I don't understand. How does adding this feature back in, a feature that doesn't exist in any current version of 1P for iOS devices, result in parallel implementations?

(However, random77, if you want the "stay in Safari" feature, you'll need to use the 1Password Logins bookmarklet. The Lookup in 1Password bookmarklet has never allowed you to stay in Safari.)

Welcome to the forums, random77! If you are interested in the Logins Bookmarklet which keeps you in Safari, please take a look at this guide:

    Safari Logins Bookmarklet

Please note that it requires 1Password for Mac, and is not intended for high-security items. Hence the warning when you set it up:
IMPORTANT: The bookmarklet data cannot be protected when used on a malicious web site. It is recommended that you limit its use to non-critical web logins. Use the native 1Password application for iPhone/iPod touch for the greatest security. It is available for purchase in the iTunes App Store.
mrtoner, I think what Roustem was saying was that if the feature was implemented again (with the current state of iOS multi-tasking) it would require two parallel implementations, not that it is currently present in any form. That code had to be re-written entirely to support multi-tasking.

We are always looking at ways to make password filling easier, though, and until Apple lets us integrate directly with Mobile Safari — not very likely — we are rolling our own solutions which we are constantly re-evaluating and improving. Sorry for the regression in this regard. It can be interesting to dance with Apple. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

In the meantime, for devices that do support multi-tasking, a quick double-press of the home button and a tap on the Safari icon will get you back to where you were.

Okay, I believe I understand the meaning of "parallel implementations." I just don't understand why the regression was even necessary. That "click-tap" (for me, with an iPod 2G and an iPad 3G, neither of which has multi-tasking), while minor, is annoying. Ah, well. Any chance you'll have a way for developers of competing browsers to add 1P support?

At this time we have nothing to announce with regard to third-party browsers on iOS. We are working on improving 1Password's integrated browser though, but I do not have a time frame for a specific release.

Believe me, we "eat our own dogfood" and will benefit from better, simpler integration in iOS as much as you. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
