Ipad /phone 4 synch problems via Dropbox

Hi there.

I`m sorry of my issue has allready been touched upon in another thread, but i feel like have tried just about everything.

I am currently running 1password Version 3.3.1.BETA-2 (build 30707) on my macbook pro, as well as the latest version of 1password pro on both my iphone 4 and iPad.

Every singe time i try to synch the ipad or iphone with my dropbox account, i get the error message "Failed to find the data file on dropbox, please make sure you are using the latest version....". I get the same message when i make 1password on my mac to backup the 1passwordsynch folder, as well as when i make it synch to the root of dropbox.

I`ve tried reinstalling 1password on my mac, ipad and iphone, as well as using the reset function for dropbox on my ipad and iPhone.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

  • Same here. I thought perhaps this was happening because my iPhone and laptop are not on the same WiFi network (laptop is on ethernet), but apparently there is more to it than that.

Seems like i found a solution to 1password not finding the files via this post http://getsatisfaction.com/agilewebsolutions/topics/failed_to_find_the_data_file_on_dropbox

But now i get the error message "Dropbox synch failed to download remote encryption keys". I wonder if it can have anything with 1password making a new file (1MB each!) in the dropbox/1passwordsynch folder, each time i do a backup on my mac

I was also experiencing the same problem. I decided to reboot the iPhone and then I reset the Dropbox sync information and I was successful. However, now I am experiencing a lack of username on the display on the iPhone.

Not only did it not sync with dropbox, but when I moved my keychain to dropbox in order to sync, the file totally disappeared and now 1Password is asking me to start a new data file.

If I sync viz wi-fi, will the computer's empty password file overwrite my phone? Then I'll lose it ALL. I'm absolutely furious.

    HI missbhavens

Have you checked and made sure that the data file is not in dropbox.

1P may have lost its location when you moved it. How did you move it via the 1P pref of via finder. If it was via finder that explains a lot.

    Try this quit 1p

open dropbox
double click on the 1password data file
1p will ask if you want to switch to this data file
click yes
1p now has the correct placement of your data file
Incidently 1P should also ask you to locate existing data file when you start it up which would essentially be what I just explained, hope this helps you out.

Can i please get som help with this problem?

Its been weeks, and i still get the error message "dropbox failed to download remote encryption keys", both for my ipad and my iphone 4.

As long as i keep the .ws.agile.1password.setings file in the root of dropbox, it finds the data file, but is unuable to download the remote encryption keys, but if i remove it, it cant find the datafile.

So i suppose my problem is something about not being able to download the remote encryption keys from dropbox, whatever that means.

    Hi Andreasnottveit,

I'm really sorry that we didn't fix your issue over the forums and that it has been weeks, Tommy had a good solution to start with. If that did not work, could you email us at support@agile.ws with your diagnostic report? This will help us track down the issue more quickly. You can generate the report from 1Password on you Mac by clicking the Help > Troubleshooting > Diagnostics Report... menu item and then attach the report to the email.

    Once again, I apologize.

The file ".ws.agile.1password.setings" is necessary for the function of Dropbox sync. It is a pointer file that allows the iOS apps to find the location of your data file in your Dropbox account. Hence the trouble if you delete it. Please do not delete it. For your own sake and ours. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

The remote encryption keys error may be fixed by Tools > Troubleshooting > Rebuild Data File… on your Mac and resetting Dropbox syncing on your iPhone.

I hope that helps you (or someone else searching for a similar issue).
  • Do you mean 1password>preferences>advanced>rebuild data file?

I tried it, now it get the same error message on my iPhone

Looking at your picture you have your keychain backups going into the 1password sync folder. These are not the same as the actual 1passwordkeychain and it would explain your problems.

There is no need to repair the keychain yet.

Locate the keychain by opening the 1p preferences. (See Pic 3) Most likely yours is in the default ~/library/application support/1password. Unless at some time you moved it.
Next make a copy of all the backups inside the 1password sync folder in Dropbox keep them safe. SEE NOTES BELOW.

Delete the backups that are still inside the 1password sync folder. AGAIN SEE NOTES BELOW

    2. Next drag the keychain you located above into the 1passwordsync folder. OR click the move button in the 1Password preferences and set the location to the folder in Dropbox

    3. Allow Dropbox to do it's magic. Wait for the sync to complete.

    4. (this part is not necessary if you used the move button in the 1Password preferences) *Doing this will not have any ill effect so its no harm if you do this.* Double click on the keychain file in Dropbox. 1p will ask if you want to switch to this keychain select yes. This will also set the preferences to the correct keychain.

Setup your sync with iPhone you should be good to go.

    NOTES

Once this gets sorted out you may want to move those backups back into the proper folder inside the ~library/application support/1password/backups. You could keep them in Dropbox if you want that's your call if you choose to you can omit the parts about copying them and moving them back to the 1p backups folder. If you choose to put them back in the default location then you need to open the 1p preferences locate the backup location and set it to the folder outlined above.

    Special Notes

In my screen shot (1) you will see what the keychain should look like. Please note the 1password sync folder is not required anymore and in my case you will see I don't have it ....only a folder call 1Password. The (2) screen shot is just a larger version of what the keychain looks like.

Well I have the remote encryption download problem in Windows version of 1password. How do I fix it in windows? I dont have a mac available.

Plz make some simple option in the windows version also. Something like "Move password file to dropbox for syncing" button. And then you just sync it from iPhone and it works.

There is far too many steps to make this thing work.
