Self-Signed website certificates

So it appears as if the 1Password Touch app won't all someone to actually access a website that has an invalid or self-signed security certificate. I understand why this would be this way, however, I manage several Netgear ReadyNAS units, a couple Promise VTrak RAIDs, a webpage for some security cameras, and a few other pages that I know are self-signed security certificates and are only accessible via local network. The only way I can access them on my iPhone or iPad is to open 1password, copy the user name and paste it into the webpage in safari, then log back into 1password, reenter all my credentials, go back the login I need, copy the password and paste it also into safari. That can be very tedious. Is there a way around this for websites that I know I can trust?

    Hi halfpast3,

I'm really sorry for the trouble here, we're aware of the issues with self-signed certificates and our built-in browsers, unfortunately it looks like a limitation in the frameworks provided by Apple that we use to give you the built in browser, called a WebView, that doesn't prompt users to accept or reject these certificates like Safari itself does. We are looking into potential solutions, but unfortunately I don't have a timeframe for if and when this will be available.

Sorry about that, I share your frustration as a number of the sites I use have these self-signed certificates and so I have to do the same copy & paste trick into Safari.

Thanks for the response, I was hoping that it would be something simple in the settings somewhere, but I certainly understand limitations of some of Apple's frameworks. Other than that cumbersome workflow, this is still one of the best programs/apps that I have ever purchased.

    Hi Carl,

You're welcome, and thanks for being so understanding. You didn't mention which device you're running on, but if it's a iOS device that runs iOS 4 and supports multi-tasking, which would now be the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 and 3rd and 4th generation iPod Touch, then switching between Safari and 1Password should be a lot easier using fast-app switching. iOS 4 will also be coming to the iPad in November, according to Apple, and so this will also benefit from the new multi-tasking support, which 1Password is ready for <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

    Stu,

I use it both on an iPhone 3GS and an iPad. I never even remember about the fast app switching on the iPhone. I am still accustom to it opening the iPod "app" as that is what I had it set for under iOS 3. Thanks for the tip, that should make things less painful.

It really does help, just remember to set your 'Auto-Lock' settings so 'Lock When Inactive' is disabled within 1Password > Settings > Security or you'll find you'll have to enter your unlock code / master password when you switch back. You can also customise the time-outs for the auto-lock itself.

You know, at first I wasn't sure I liked losing that double-tap of the home button = iPod controls functionality, but of course it's much better to have multi-tasking controls there, I just wish you could still customise the triple click.

    All the best,
