Upgrading from (old) 1Password 2 to 3

Hi,

I was a longtime and happy user of 1Password 2. After I installed Snow Leopard a while ago, I kept putting off upgrading to 1Password 3 and it kind of fell into disuse, but now I thought I'd give version 3 a shot. But now I've run into some problems that I can't figure out how to solve.

1. My system still contains a "1Password" keychain in 1Password 2 format. 1Password 3 neither shows me the entries in that keychain, nor does it offer me to import from 1P 2. This is surprising, given the number of other programs from which it _does_ offer import things. I tried to restart 1Password 2.9.19 to see if I could upgrade the 1P database from there, but this now just gives me a popup saying "Incompatible Version: This version of 1Password must be run on OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or lower. Please upgrade to 1Password v3 for use on OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)", and then quits. So my question is: How do I upgrade my old 1P passwords, which are stored in my keychain in 1Password v2 format, for use in 1Password v3?

2. Regarding licensing: I bought a license to 1Password 2 as part of a MacHeist bundle in 2008. Unfortunately, the link to my license file which I was sent as part of the MacHeist bundle (http://agilewebsolutions.com/macheist/view?license_id=.....) no longer works. I suppose I need to buy a 1Password 3 license anyway; but it would still be useful to recover the old license in order to get the upgrading discount which the FAQ page promises. How should I proceed here?

Thanks for your help,

Cheers,

Alexander.

The "old format" is based on Mac OS X Keychain and it is in full control of the system. Unfortunately, it means that 1Password 3 is treated as a completely different application that is not allowed to access entries created by 1Password 2.

Please install 1Password 2.12 and use this version to upgrade the data format.

Please email support@agile.ws and we will take care of it.

    Thank you!
  • Hi Roustem,

thanks for the friendly welcome and the quick reply!

I managed to access my old passwords with 1Password 2.12 and exported them as an interchange file, which I then successfully imported into 1Password 3. Now everything seems to be working fine. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

In addition, 1Password 3 on my other machine noticed that I had a 1P 2 license and sent me to a web page for the discounted upgrade. (Although it was a little unpleasant that I couldn't continue with the import of the interchange file until I had purchased the license.) So that's taken care of too.

Thanks a lot for your help, and keep up the good work!

    Cheers,

    Alexander.
