Dropbox sync behaves strangely after update

Hi

First of all thank you to the team for a really sweet product. I am enjoying it immensely. Now for my problem...

I use 1Password on Mac, iPhone 3GS and an iPad. I am syncing the keychain using my Dropbox account. This seemed to work fine until the latest desktop upgrade for 1Password.

I see slightly different behavior on all 3 devices:

On the Mac

Everything works fine. I have tried both the app and 1PasswordAnywhere through the Dropbox website. No problems.

On the iPad

When doing a Dropbox sync from within the app it tells me that the master password is wrong and that I should use the same password as on the Mac. The problem is that I am actually using the same password. Going through mobile Safari on the iPad and the Dropbox website I am also unable to unlock 1PasswordAnywhere even though I am 100% certain it is the same password as on the Mac. It does not tell me the password is wrong. It just hangs for a while and then clears the password field on the unlock screen.

On the iPhone

Dropbox sync from within the app says wrong master password like on my iPad. Again I'm sure I am using the same password. However! Unlike the iPad I can access and unlock 1PasswordAnywhere through the Dropbox website, which tells me that I am indeed using the correct password and that the keychain has synced successfully with Dropbox.

What I have tried

I have changed the master password multiple times from the Mac app and checked that it synced correctly to Dropbox so that I could use it to unlock 1PasswordAnywhere.

I have eliminated special characters from my password. I tried with just a-z and numbers. I tried with just a-z. Same result. The new passwords work fine on the Mac app, in the Mac's browser and in the iPhone's browser but never in the iPhone app, the iPad app or the iPad browser.

On the iPhone I have tried shutting down the app completely using the task switcher to clear out any potentially cached master password.

Tapping "Sync Now" from the Dropbox settings screen again (and again). Same result pops up after "Requesting remote encryption keys..."
Setup

Macbook Pro running OS X 10.6.4 and 1Password 3.4.2 (build 30750)

iPhone 3GS running iOS 4.1 (8B117) and the latest 1Password according to the App Store.

iPad WiFi running iOS 3.2.2 (7B500) and the latest 1Password according to the App Store.
My workaround so far is WiFi sync, but it would sure be nice to get the Dropbox functionality back.

Any tips or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards

Morten

Hi Mortan, welcome to the forums!

I’m sorry about the issues you’re having with the Dropbox Sync on your iOS Devices, it is a strange one.

Did you ever rebuild the data file on your Mac?

    1. Open 1Password

    2. Go to the Help Menu > Troubleshooting > Rebuild Data File ..

Wait for Dropbox to finish syncing and then some more after it’s done. Open 1Password on your iPhone and start from the beginning with the Dropbox Sync, make sure you reset the Dropbox Sync account information:
Settings > Sync > Dropbox Sync > Account > Reset
Then go to Dropbox Sync to start, first information it ask is the master password for your iPhone, then Dropbox account information and then the master password for 1Password on Mac.

Let me know how it turns out.

I would also try to "Reset" Dropbox settings and start over. We currently have a bug where the iOS application does not detect that Dropbox OAuth authentication is not valid anymore. This bug will be fixed in the next update.

Rebuilding the file on the Mac and resetting the Dropbox sync settings on the iOS devices fixed my problem immediately!
