Can't start 1Password - Crashing on startup

SaSaSushi
SaSaSushi Member
I am unable to open the 1Password application. It crashes immediately on startup with the error:

1Password quit unexpectedly

Console.app shows:

2010-09-19 07:24:58 ReportCrash[820] Saved crash report for 1Password[818] version 3.4.2 (30750) to /Users/xxxxx/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/1Password_2010-09-19-072458_X-Xxxxxx-Xxxxxxxxx-iMac.crash

2010-09-19 07:25:08 1Password[824] Could not find sound named '40001'.

The browser plugins continue to work as normal.
Hi SaSaSushi,

It sounds like your 1Password installation is damaged, which is keeping it from starting. This is likely also affecting browser integration. To resolve this:
1. Download 1Password from our web site:

    http://agilewebsolutions.com/downloads

Click on the "Download Now" button to the right of "1Password 3"

    2. Quit your web browser and 1Password, if it's running

    3. Open your Applications folder and drag 1Password to the Trash

    4. Install the new copy of 1Password you just downloaded

    5. Run 1Password and then your web browser
Your information is stored in a data file separate from the application, so it will not be harmed by this procedure.

Please let me know how it turns out.
  • Thank you very much, Mike.

All seems to go well with the reinstall. It tells me that it found my keychain in my Dropbox folder and asks me if I want to sync to it and obviously I choose "yes".

Then the main 1Password window never appears and the application crashes again with the same error. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

Please let me know what I can do!
  • Just an update. I thought my keychain may have been corrupted so I restored a copy from a week ago when I know 1Password was working and I got the same error. So as a test I tried a complete uninstall and then installed it creating a brand new keychain and I got the same error!

Another curious thing. When I install it for the first time and it actually manages to run until the point where I am asked about the keychain there are two Help sections on the menu bar next to each other rather than just one.

Thanks for any help you can lend!

That is strange. Could you please email us your Diagnostics Report? (Do not attach it here) This will help us track down the issue more quickly. You can generate the report from 1Password on your Mac by clicking the Help > Troubleshooting > Diagnostics Report... menu item and then attach the report in the email to support@agile.ws, be sure to include a link to this thread so we know where we are at.
  • Thanks again, Mike. Just an update. I realized something was seriously wrong at a deeper level than 1Password. I saw crashes in some other apps as well so I backed up the system, reinstalled Snow Leopard and restored all my apps and everything seems to be working fine again.

I'm glad to hear that everything is working well again. (I am sure you are too!) Please let us know if you need anything else.
