Can't create a Tag

Hello,

I have just started using the latest version of 1Password (Snow Leopard OS) and have 1 single entry that 1Password created automatically. It is not in the vault and categorized as Untagged and Unfiled (not in a folder).

First I can't drag and drop into a vault category but even more when I edit the item, I can't see where or how I can apply a tag. There is no such icon!

Also, in the menu I do not find an entry where I can create new Tags or Categories.

Am I missing something?

yes, I have unlocked 1Password.

Please advice, Thanks.

Bjorn

    Welcome to the 1password forums,

Enter edit mode for the login and then next to the blue tag looking icon type what you want for a tag. Exit edit mode and the tag is saved. It should now appear in the left hand column. From this point on with any items you wish to add this tag to simply click on the item in the center column. Drag the login over the tag once the area around the tag turns blue release the login and the tag is applied to that login. This does not move the login just applies the tag.

The tag can obviously be applied to other things than logins I just used that for reference.

    hello thightower,

see here is the point - I do not see that blue icon 'tag' anywhere in edit mode. I have tried different things - manually create an entry or an automatically created entry - but the icon does not appear. See attachment. Seems like this whole feature is missing?! I see the Notes icon but not the Tag icon.

    Any advice?

    Thanks,

    Hey bernardbjoe,

What you are viewing is a Generated Password item. These are stored "outside of" your vault of normal logins. Think of it as a password history, in case you need access to your previously generated passwords. They cannot be moved or edited or it wold defeat their purpose.

You will need to create a login for that site in your browser. You can copy the password from the Generated Password item (if that is indeed the correct password) and then log in to the site in your browser. 1Password will prompt you to save the login, at which point you will see the newly created login item in your vault where you can tag and file it until your heart's content. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

I hope that helps. Please let me know.

    Cheers!

As khad said that is a generated password and if you want to tag it you can with a little trickery. Well not really its just kind of hidden.

Create your tags as I mentioned before and then simply drag the gen pw onto the tag like I mentioned before. The tag will not show up as being there but it is. If you do a search by tag you will find the item included. This has been around for a good while now, some of us have brought this up before. My self being one of them. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> (err wanting to visually see the tags that is........ but the reasoning for not doing this is the less you limit editing of a safety feature which a save of a Gen PW is, the less likely someone will inadvertently change it for the worse)

If you want to remove the tag from the Gen PW drag the item back to the untagged folder it will strip away those invisible tags for you.
