Sync Conflict Resolver Constantly appears yet record not there

I am syncing between Mac and iPhone, both latest versions. Just after synch starts the Sync Conflict resolver appears and asks me to choose. Problem is that this particular record exists neither on the Mac nor the iPhone. I've tried picking one or the other both ways, and it never seems to work. Next time I do a sync there it is again. Ideas?
