Import Account Data

<div class="IPBDescription">How to import data for server accounts</div>Is it possible to import data for server accounts rather than website logins? I have dozens of accounts to company servers and services that are not web based. The import screen appears to only allow one to import web login data.

    Hi mtatmc,

    Welcome to the forums!

Applications save their passwords and other related information in numerous ways. 1Password has no way to programmatically locate, read and then populate that data into server Accounts. Any other data besides Logins that you wish to store must be filled in by hand.

I'm sorry I don't have a better answer, but I hope that clarifies the situation.
  • That makes no sense to me. Whatever database 1Password uses for the various account types should be able to take input from a flat file in the same way the logins can take input from a flat file.

All I want to do is populate the hostname, username, and password fields, same as for logins. Are you saying that is not technically possible?

    mtatmc,

I'm sorry for any confusion here, unfortunately it's not currently possible to import account, wallet and software license items via a text file as we can do for logins and secure notes. We are looking into adding support for other item types in the future, as well as expanding the range of formats 1Password can import from, but for now you'll need to manually enter these details by adding a new 'Server' account item under the 'Accounts' section of the 1Password vault. I don't have a timeframe for exactly when this will be available, but it's certainly on our list of improvements to make.

Sorry I don't have a better answer for you right now.
  • Unfortunately that lack renders the product less useful in an institutional environment than it otherwise could be. It appears that part of the problem is the product lumps too many types of accounts under the "account" grouping for a one size fits all solution. Thank you for clarifying.

I am sorry that 1Password is lacking functionality that you would like in your environment. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_sadsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-(' />

Especially lately we have been seeing a lot of users switching to 1Password — is October Security Month? <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' /> — so this is something we are looking in to. As Stu mentioned:

    Thanks for understanding.

As it happens, October is Security Month. My inbox at work is filled with helpful "User complex passwords you can't possibly remember" warnings. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Most of those passwords are not for web servers.
