Feature Request: Assign Keys to open/close vaults

I'm still using 1.x until I get the key for 2.0, but one of the features I've been finding I really wished Knox had is the ability to open/close vaults with a keystroke. There are times when I'm working with the keyboard and I'd really like to open my financial documents vault with a key combo. Right now, the best solution I have is via Keyboard Maestro, bypassing Knox completely.

For the mouse click types : Click the knox icon in the menu bar and select the vault it opens if you havae the password stored in your keychain.

I am not familiar w/ Keyboard Mastro, sounds like its also similar to what I do w/ Quicksilver I have a trigger set up to open my vaults and when I type it, poof it opens because I have the password stored in my login keychain. Also it launches Knox because of the file associations etc.

Keyboard Maestro is an automation utility. You can create macros that open applications, files, or many other things (e.g., click a mouse, select a menu item). One person used it to add the command-/ 1Password shortcut to Chrome.

I use the mouse to launch vaults via the menu bar icon, but it would be nice if you could add a keyboard shortcut to a specific vault.

I don't recommend storing your vault passwords in your keychain. If you do that, anybody who gets access to your account can open the vault. I instead type it each time. Although, if 1Password worked with Knox to store my vault password (with the standard auto-locking), that would be different since it would require unlocking 1Password first.

Mine is not an importantly highly protected vault, 1P protects most of its stuff via a pin code on the iphone. err just a backup of my licensekeys etc

Now the legal vaults etc I type each and every time.

You can copy and paste from inside 1P to the knox vault password screen if that helps.

Thanks for the suggestions on both the desire for keyboard shortcut(s) and integration with 1Password. We'll consider these as we make plans for future releases of Knox.
  • +1 for keyboard shortcuts.

I use LaunchBar to mostly keep my hands on the keyboard. I'd actually prefer a way to get at my vaults from LaunchBar more than global keyboard shortcuts, as it's a little easier for me to remember. Does anyone know if there's a way to have the sparse bundle files associated with Knox in LaunchBar? Right now I just have an AppleScript for each vault file, which opens it.

Right, after tooling around with the LB index, I was able to have it just find the files, which opened in Knox. It's unfortunate how difficult LaunchBar is to learn.

    As you were.

    Thanks for the feedback and update, drewsign. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Better keyboard support is on our radar.
