Using Diskwarrior to rebuild directories of Knox encrypted volumes

I'm not sure whether this is a question best asked here, but is it possible to use Diskwarrior to rebuild the directory of a volume that has been encrypted by Knox? I have used Diskwarrior many times in the past to recover from seemingly impossible problems accessing disks. As far as I can tell, a Knox volume appears on the desktop as just another disk and seems to behave like one as far as Diskwarrior is concerned, but there may be other things going on behind the scenes that could trip up Diskwarrior.

    Hi Steve,

    Welcome to the forums!

Knox stores all its data in standard Mac OS X encrypted disk images. It should be possible to use DiskWarrior with both Knox vaults and whole-disk encrypted volumes. While I couldn't find anything on Alsoft's website, this Macworld review of DiskWarrior 4 (the current version) mentions exactly that in the first paragraph. "DiskWarrior both optimizes and repairs directories on hard disks, RAID volumes, FileVaults, disk images, and iPods."

For further details or support with DiskWarrior, you should contact Alsoft directly.

Please let me know how it turns out.

    Thanks!

It took a while for me to get around to replying, but I have now successfully used Diskwarrior 4 to rebuild a couple of Knox vault directories. This is on a MacBook Pro, running Snow Leopard (10.6.5), and version 2.0.8 of Knox. As the directories in question were stored on a memory stick, it whizzed through the process too, taking about 10 seconds for a 2GB vault.
