Keyboard shortcut for 'Fill Identity' no longer works
Comments

Posting the response here received from 1P support in case anyone else comes looking. I suspect many won't even know about the shortcuts for fill identity as they're not configurable in the preferences.
Previously Cmd+Alt+1 (or 2 for second identity, etc) would fill the identity into a browser form. Quite some time ago Safari released the 'top sites' feature and this shortcut was taken for that feature. At the time, the guidance from the guys at 1P was to re-map the shortcut used by Safari in System Preferences (which I did). This solution has been working fine ever since, until one of the recent 1P releases decided to change the shortcut for fill identity to Shift+Cmd+Alt+1.
I feel this is a bad move for a number of reasons:
1. Users become accustomed to using a particular gesture for a function ('muscle memory') and it's quite difficult to un-learn/retrain the use of new gestures or combinations.
2. Shortcuts that use more than 3 keys (in my opinion) are rarely used as they're difficult to perform.
3. This particular shortcut, if you tend to use the function keys on the left, is impossible to perform with one hand.
I'd like to request that 1P make this a configurable option like the other keyboard shortcuts in the application. Does anyone else use this function and have a feeling either way?
Thanks,

Hey Tom,
I'm sorry that you are having to deal with this. Unfortunately, we are at the mercy of the 600 pound gorilla that is Apple. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
We couldn't keep using a shortcut that will, by default, conflict with every single Mac user's default browser. Please feel free to configure the shortcut just as you would any other shortcut in System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts. Select "Application Shortcuts" in the list and then click the plus button. Select "Safari" for application and then the exact name of the identity you wish you use for "Menu Title." Enter a shortcut and you are done.
This only works if you have more than one Identity saved since the Edit > Fill with 1Password Identity menu item is not present with only one. I am filing this in our internal tracker to see if we can remove this limitation in a future release. In the meantime, the above instructions should work if you add another Identity ("Work" address and details, "Fake" for signing up for spammy things, etc.).
I hope that helps. Please let me know.

Hi Khad,
Thanks for getting back to me. Your suggestion has restored the functionality I previously had, so thanks for that.
I still think it would be great if you could just set the shortcuts within 1Password as with other functions.
Many thanks,

Thanks for letting me know that my suggestion worked for you. We tried to include the main keyboard shortcuts that most folks will be using in the preferences. Mac OS X does have that great feature you are using in System Preferences, but we will certainly take your suggestion into consideration. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Another vote for having this an option in 1PW Preferences. I got caught by the issue, and it seems more natural to do it from within 1PW than via System PreferencesFlag 0 -
This reminds me of the Settings Are in the Settings App debate for iOS apps. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' /> Thanks for letting us know this would be useful to you as well, danco!Flag 0
