Feature Request: iTunes integration
in Mac
Not being familiar with how far developers may or may not integrate their third-party software with Apple's iTunes application, I wanted to post this query to see if there's any possibility of developing a 1Password feature that allows it to fill in my iTunes password when it is requested (which is frequently, and frequently annoying) in the pop-up, or even in the iTunes browser. So would it be feasible, or even possible?
Thanks for one of the best apps out there by the way. I have 1Password on my Macs, iPad, and iPhone 4, all synced to Dropbox so that I can use 1PasswordAnywhere. You guys are friggin' geniuses.

Hi boggycreek and bwoop, welcome to the forums, it's great to have you with us and thanks so much for your posts.
Unfortunately it isn't possible for 1Password to interact with iTunes to fill your iTunes account details. Although the iTunes Store is handled by a WebKit based browser the actual authentication is handled by the iTunes application itself. So, in order for 1Password to fill your details we'd need Apple to provide an extensions API for iTunes like they do for Safari, and I don't see this happening any time soon.
OS X does have it's own keychain implementation, which is used by things like Mail.app and Safari to store usernames and passwords, but for some reason Apple have decided not to implement this for iTunes, which I have to agree with you both is incredibly frustrating and is really preventing from using a strong password with iTunes right now.

I thought I read somewhere that this was ALREADY part of version 3. I'm disappointed to find out it isn't. I too, am annoyed by iTunes and have had to frequently change my password there due to forgetting it... just what I use 1password for.

That kind of brings me onto your question, bwoop, 1Password 3 does have an 'Account' item type for your iTunes credentials, but this is really for ease of access and as I mentioned above there's just no way we can fill these for you, at least not right now.
I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news here, but I thought you'd like the full explanation rather than just 'no, it won't work'.Flag 0 -
Wow. I never even noticed that. Personally, I intentionally leave "Remember my password" unchecked so that every time I try to make an impulse buy I am confronted with the password prompt. This has saved me hundreds of dollars. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />
In all seriousness though, it is a shame that 1Password can't autofill iTunes account info, but, like stu said, at least you can store your login in 1Password so you can refer to it in the event you forget it. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_worried.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':S' />Flag 0 -
bretny, like you, I wish to deter impulse purchases, but even using a generated password, copy and paste is just too easy. Even in iOS.
Somehow I still manage to spend too much in the App Store! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />Flag 0 -

I was going to post a request for this very feature that I have bitching for a long time it didn't exist, but no need now...
And thanks for the long answer, it's nice to know the details... Now I can be frustrated against Apple and not against you guys! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/angry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> >>> <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />Flag 0 -
Our relationship status with Apple is: "It's complicated" <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
In seriousness, though. We are looking at some ways around this, but I don't have anything to announce right now — certainly not a time frame.
This is something we would all love to see improved.Flag 0 -
I am a 1Password newbie; have searched the forum for the answer to this question but can't seem to find one. Is there a way to log in to my iTunes accounts (I have two) using 1Password? I'm not having any problem using 1Password with Firefox but I can't figure out how to use it with iTunes. Am I missing something obvious? <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />Flag 0

I am new to 1Passord and I am sorry if this has been discussed but I can't figure out how to Go & FillLogin to iTunes. Can anyone assist?

Hello DPete! Welcome to the Forums!
Unfortunately, at the present time, it is not possible to autofill iTunes or Apple ID logins.
Please refer to the following post for more details: iTunes & 1Password
In the interim, I use the copy and paste functions. I know it's not what we would like, but, apparently, it's the best solution for now.
Cheers!

Is there any 1Password shortcut to accomplish a login from a 1Password "Account" as there is in "Logins" for webpages? When I want to login to my iTunes Store account the only way I have found to do that from 1Password is to launch 1Pwd and then copy the password from 1Pwd for pasting into the password line at the iTunes store login page. I suspect that I am missing something obvious, since it is so easy to login using 1Psd for web pages. Thanks!Flag 0

Hello bobio01 and welcome to the Forums!
I merged your topic with the appropriate thread.
Unfortunately, you aren't missing a hidden feature. 1Password can currently only integrate with web browsers. Because of this, you'll have to launch 1Password, find the login item, and copy/paste your password from there.
I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you at this time.
Cheers!
