Windows Phone 7
So, I know I've asked this on Twitter, but is the Agile team looking to port 1P to WP7 in the future? I'm going to be looking for a new phone in the next couple of months, and the only thing holding me back is 1Password support. I know - high praise! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />

Hi Kop48,
That is high praise indeed <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
As you may know, our focus for mobile development has been on iOS and Android. Given our druthers, of course, we'd support every popular platform, but we just don't have the resources to do that. This doesn't mean we're shutting the door on the other mobile platforms out there, but (to keep expectations realistic) it does mean that iOS and Android is where active mobile development is currently taking place.
Having said that, we try to never say never here at Agile Web Solutions, so while there are no plans for Windows Phone 7 support for 1Password right now, that doesn't mean there will never be such a solution, but we do need to use our fairly limited resources wisely.
Thanks again for the kind words,

Bugger! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />
Now, the decision is whether to stay in Apple's walled garden, or go with Android... Hmmmm....

This is me speaking as a geek and not as a member of the AWS team, just to be clear:
I personally prefer iOS, while Apple do have control over the App Store that's generally a good thing, it keeps crap out of the store, makes the whole process finding and purchasing of apps much easier and in general the apps seem to be of higher quality. Sure, Apple have made mistakes with the review process, but I genuinely believe they're improving the review process all the time, and speaking as a 'developer padawan' I'm impressed with how they work with developers when there's a problem.
Now, I do have an Android phone for testing 1Password for Android, and there's lots to like, the refund process is better on the Marketplace, but at the same time there's lots of junk in the Marketplace and so many Android devices out there that it makes it hard for developers to provide a consistent experience across all devices.
Either way, you'll still have 1Password, although of course the iOS version has been around a little bit longer so it has more features right now, but I know Gene is working incredibly hard to make 1Password for Android really kick some butt <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Hmm now I have a dilemma where, if I want to get an iPhone 4, there'll be a new one released no more than 6 months after. Might be worth me buying it outright and selling it again when the new one comes out...Flag 0 -

That's the problem with technology, it moves so fast! That's exactly what I did though, bought an unlocked iPhone 4 so I could switch carriers when I need to (I'm in the UK, so I've got the option of quite a few, I chose T-Mobile in the end and haven't looked back since) and then sell the phone for a good price if the iPhone 5, or whatever it will be called, comes out if I feel it's worth the upgrade.
I will say though, the iPhone 4 is a fantastic device, the retina display is just beautiful <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />Flag 0 -

That's a major issue for a lot of people, I run a Mac podcast as well as working for Agile, so I hear all the rumours about the iPhone coming to Verizon, or more specifically CDMA. I'd say we'll see a iPhone on Verizon in the future, but not on CDMA, I'm thinking Apple will wait for the global rollout of LTE to happen, which is meant to be the 'one ring' to bind GSM and CDMA into a single, well spec'd and capable, standard so every network can leverage the same network strengths.Flag 0 -

Yup, I'm thinking I'll get an iOS device (iPod or iPad), and then get a WP7 phone. That way, I don't have to go on contract and I still have 1Password! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> Also, gives me the flexibility to upgrade in the future.Flag 0 -
I'm betting you could find an unlocked 3GS for a decent price. That way you can upgrade to whatever Apple releases in 2011 if you find it compelling. The iPhone 4 retina display is amazing, but if you haven't seen it it's easy to live without it -- especially if it's only a few months.
I've used my friends 3GS for a bit, and it wasn't bad at all compared to my 4. I upgraded to an iPhone 4 from my beloved 3G this year, and believe me THAT was a treat. I really miss the way the 3G/3GS feels in the hand though. If I could find a case that mimics that I would be set.
Since you're such a devoted 1Password user, I can only assume that security must be at the top of your list. Android is a powerful platform with some amazing features, but the marketplace is the wild west. That may be a concern.
On the other hand, despite the fantastic user experience of the iPhone, AT&T really, really sucks. And I say this as a user in a very uncongested service area. If I were the sort of person who actually wanted to make calls with my phone, I would have to reevaluate.
At the end of the day, it really just comes down to personal preference. While I am enticed by the flexibility of Android (customizability and carrier choice,) I value the ease of use and quality of the iOS app ecosystem above all else. Obviously, since making calls can be a real headache at times.
I long for the day when I can replace it with an iPod touch. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0 -

Touché! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
In all seriousness though, I think the "crap" he was referring to was the malicious and scam apps. A few slip in there from time to time, but for the most part people don't even waste their time and resources creating such things to submit simply because of the approval process.
Sadly, there are also plenty of legitimate software developers that don't develop for iOS because of the approval process. It has become a bit less opaque these last few months, but on Android, for example, you just write the code and put it out there. There's no guarantee that it will even run.
So, fart apps notwithstanding... <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
Windows Phone 7, despite its unfortunate name, looks very promising. I wouldn't be surprised to see 1Password on there once it's clear it's a platform with some longevity. Only time -- and sales figures -- will tell.Flag 0 -
I recently purchased the Focus and was hoping you guys would be supporting it.
I remember the same was said for Android and then a week later, it was announced.
Wish the same would happen here, but I'm very doubtful. Hopefully you guys support it soon.
Works well on my nexus, iPhone 4, PC and mac, so I'm sure it would for a wp7 device as well.Flag 0 -

Well, I can tell you that it won't be next week. That's not to say there never will be, though. It took us a while before we supported Android, too.
Thanks for the feedback, duvi!
